BMD vs. AF100

So .. like many after NAB were all high on the hype of the BMD camera.

Keep your AF100. Be happy with your AF100. It works .. it's
reliable.

Or use both, at different times. It looks like there will be some overlap with the BMC and other cameras, but it really does look like it will be suited to certain types of work. I suspect that it will be a pain to use as a field camera, without major adaption. So using it at Everest base camp might not be ideal. I also suspect that it might be quite noisy as well as loosing some of it's DR in daytime externals ( without heavy ND ). A few more weeks and we should know a bit more.

When you say "it's reliable", it insinuates that the BMD isn't reliable. Have you experienced reliability issues and if so, what were the problems? I just took a peek at their site, and the specs and price are incredible.

I like the way bmd added zoom focus after forums asked for it. I stupidly assumed my af101 would have it like every hd camera I ever bought. I reckon panny should start making their own hacks for af10*'s...sales would certainly pick up. They will say engineers can't because blahblahblah...

Welcome to the new breed of camera manufacturers BMD.

Still not selling my af101 as it has uses and I've never owned a cam that's lost so much value after just 12 months of owning.

I will keep my AF100 because it's such a great camera. So easy to use without any expensive or complicated add-ons to buy. But I will get a BMDCC also.

I am keeping my AF100 and my happiness intact. I never really felt the hype. I didn't like the "thunderbolt" waveform monitor option, and the lens mount options (none for m4/3 which to me would be a no-brainer for them). It just looked hard to used properly. Also, for a raw camera, I'd like a bigger sensor than the one they have. So what happened?

BMD still looks good to me - even with a smaller sensor - but I'll let my colleague take the BM leap for scripted work.

Fact is, I really like the AF100 and will continue shooting it because it continues to make a boatload of $$$ for me no matter what it's worth, which really doesn't matter.

Good news is that I sold my other HD today - Harley Davidson, that is - now I can afford to keep the AF100 and still get a new FS700.

The S35 sensor looks good and I can find a hundred uses for 240fps in sports and wilderness shooting which is where I spend a lot of time.

Like Kyle said, different tools for different jobs.

Regards,
Scott

Look, if you can't make a decent looking film/video with the AF100, how the heck are you going to do it with the BMDC? Totally different workflow. RAW? Sometimes that term RAW is also attributed to laziness (I'll fix it in post). NO CAMERA is going to solve ones inabilities to make a motion project. Things like lighting, story, proper exposure, good sound and more lighting and understanding lighting make good images. The BMDC is or will be a great thing I'm sure, but it ain't gonna solve your problems. Plus, they are just two different tools...
