BMCUser.com

That's one way to look at it...but here are some general thoughts/opinions.

- The site has been down for almost 3 months.
- It could take 24 hours to get it back up and running if you really wanted to (even reverting back to the old software).
- One could make the front-end much simpler, and provide a temporary solution for interaction while some features are disabled and major work continues to be done.
- BMCuser was the only site out of the three that had an "update", at least a cosmetic one.
- Blackmagic has grown to be RED's biggest competitor (not ARRI) and you're not going to positively support a competitor.
- It's speculated Blackmagic most likely removed CinemaDNG from their cameras after years of some exchanges with RED.
- What happened with RED recently has absolutely no relation to this in any way, shape or form.

With all that said, as far as we know, the site could be up-and-running tomorrow.

I also noticed that forum hangs only if you logged in, click message text box at the bottom and try to browse pages.
If you are not logged in - the forum works well. Sort of read-only mode.

Yeah I have to agree, it's most peculiar. The easy fix is to revert it but they've been taking weeks to do or fix anything, let alone answer or acknowledge there's a massive problem. Meanwhile two other sister sites, namely this one and Reduser seem to be going just fine....

It's a shame because there was a lot of useful content and discussion there and also frankly, some great history.

Some of the most passionate camera talk I've ever experienced was during those 2013-2015 years.

What a crazy, beautiful time for Blackmagic when 99% of everything else on the market was lackluster or too much money. (The FS7 was just getting going.)

I haven't been able to log into BMCuser for months. Tried a search on there today and then was able to successfully login from the search results page.

I remember a few years ago the BMCUSER site tried using the very same theme it's using now, and it didn't work then just like it doesn't work now. That theme is broken, and everyone knew it was broken. It seems like this was just an intentional way to kill a strong Blackmagic supporting community. Simply reverting back to the old theme, or loading in a new one would fix it. It would only take a few minutes (I know, I ran a vBulletin forum for years, it's not complicated). :thumbdown

I mean, why not just take down the site at this point? It's not getting fixed. We're not getting updates. Just kill the site.

You're all welcome to head over to reddit.com/r/bmcuser if you all want. There for anyone.

I don't remember any other theme, but that's interesting. vBulletin is simple and I figured 24 hours is a reasonable amount of time for a task that's probably done by someone on their own time for free (or low pay).

Sometimes you want something to stop functioning for your best interest, but not necessarily erase its history. (I'd rather see it up than not if it's done for good.)

All, I am getting radio silence from vBulletin support post-BlackMagicUser upgrade. I am continuing to ping, but silence....

I wish it were that easy. In order to upgrade vBulletin, I had to have a bunch up updates done on the server side. And some of those updates are not compatible with the older vBulletin version. Meanwhile, although I keep contacting vBulletin, I am getting no replies. Mind you, we paid for the new version as well as the pro upgrade, which obviously mucked up much of BMCUser. Trust me, this is as frustrating for me as you users.

6 months...

Guys, I continue to attempt to work with vBulletin support, but no solutions yet so far. Sorry and trust me, I do not want to be spending cycles trying to get support on something that was broken upon software upgrade.

This is kind of beyond a joke isn’t it ?

Even reactivating a sub forum here would be better wouldn’t it ?

It’s a shame that its seemingly so uncared for.

By the way, and while we're at it... Why not create new subforums, and not only a BM one ? And why not update the current subforums with new descriptions ? We're still stuck with descriptions including ancient gems like GH1, or 550D ! It shouldn't be too difficult to type some generic and more up to date descriptions...

And what about updating the software ? I mean, having a mobile theme would be great in 2020... If Vbulletin doesn't work, I am pretty sure there's a zillion way to import the current database on another forum software (Invision, etc). It's long overdue, unless you want DVX to slowly die.
