BMCUser.com

By the way, and while we're at it... Why not create new subforums, and not only a BM one ? And why not update the current subforums with new descriptions ? We're still stuck with descriptions including ancient gems like GH1, or 550D ! It shouldn't be too difficult to type some generic and more up to date descriptions...

And what about updating the software ? I mean, having a mobile theme would be great in 2020... If Vbulletin doesn't work, I am pretty sure there's a zillion way to import the current database on another forum software (Invision, etc). It's long overdue, unless you want DVX to slowly die.

I actually really like the overall look/theme of DVX. It’s THE easiest on the eyes of pretty much all of the forums I’m on. But yes, I agree some of the sub-forums could do with a little freshening up. Maybe add a dedicated ARRI forum, too. Used Alexa’s are so cheap now, there are going to be lots of people(already are) with them at the mid-to-lower levels.

But hey, I have to give the mods credit, there was some jack@ss spamming all over about 20 different threads the other day and they assassinated him(or the bot or whatever) and deleted all the posts within about 10 mins of reporting it. So that gets points in my book.

Agreed all round.

I like the LoCon look.

And our mods are amazing. A lot of people make remarks as if they are heavily funded and should do all these things, but a lot of those banners are so old and not generating ad revenue, from what I've heard. So, not sure who everyone is expecting to update all these things? The mods already do so much, and keep this forum on track and focused. But it would take either a crazy dedicated volunteer, or someone willing to spend some money to get any big updates on dvx, let alone bmcuser.

This is kind of beyond a joke isn’t it ?

Even reactivating a sub forum here would be better wouldn’t it ?

It’s a shame that its seemingly so uncared for.

JB
You use this forum for self promotion and the promotion of Black Magic cameras, maybe you could either donate some money or get your friends at Black Magic to care? Just a thought.

That seems a little harsh on JB. He gets involved in random technical conversations. He's very generous with educational advice for less experienced DPs. He's had kind words to say about Komodo. I don't think he's totally in the tank for BM, whether he has a financial relationship with them or not.

I can't tell if your ire is directed at me or at James. To be clear, I was trying to defend you and I value your commentary on the forum. I do not think you're trying to sell something.

We’re all good.

But I have found the ignore function.

Thanks.

WTF ?

Thanks dude.

JB

Why so incredulous? I think you have taken my comment in a weird way. We all benefit from this forum, and to see people remark about how well it is or isn't maintained as if it is bankrolled or something, is a little inconsiderate to the mods, imho. If you care about BMCuser, maybe put some time into helping get some work hours behind it, whether with volunteering hours of your own time (which probably doesn't make sense), or getting some funding to pay someone to do it. I just don't see how saying things like "this is beyond a joke" is going to change anything directly.

James, you've always struck me as an a-hole in hiding, and this post of yours removes any doubt. I hope you don't take my comment in a weird way.

Hi StMad. And I was having a good day.

If me defending the mods in this community is an a-hole move, that is news to me. I didn't say anything that wasn't true, and if it was misleading or offensive then you are reading your own views into it. I have benefited a great deal form this community. If you look at JB's comments in this thread, there was a pattern of saying that BMCUSER and DVXUSER are owned by a company started by Jarred and therefore they don't want to restore BMCUSER. He was also asking for "somebody" to fix it. Well who? Who should fix it? Have you clicked on some of the advertisement links on this site? Sometimes they lead to a webpage that no longer exists. I'm just now sure who these bank rolled full time gig moderators might be? There is another thread talking about how everyone wants content and entertainment for free. Well, looks like people expect their forums and the work behind it to be free as well. I'm more loyal to this forum than one member. And sometimes individual members are not that nice. If you have long thought I am an A-hole in hiding, then I am glad you said something rather than held that in.

Sometimes we disagree, but life is not that bad.

It was a pretty s*%tty post filled with ignorance and personal attack. Commenting on a forum he has no knowledge or history of, nor the history of why this thread started. Clearly doens’t know I was a moderator of that forum from the very very beginning in 2012. Landline did an “upgrade” 12 months ago, and it’s been broken ever since. Many private and public requests to address it get deflected or ignored. An easy solution would have been to revert to the old version (the one that’s currently running here) or to fix the problems. They haven’t done either.

This thread started here on this forum out of desperation of a whole community that want their old forum back.

It’s an ill informed douche comment at best. I like your description of him better.

On the suggestion that John B. put his money and time where his mouth is. If you were there at the beginning with BM cameras John offered a lot of advice, info, and tech knowledge. from a working DP. We all got the benefit of a quick understanding of these new cameras from him. And misinformation was also put to rest quickly. Aside from being a mod over there, thats a immeasurable value, no?

UPDATE: After much pestering and escalating, I have finally gotten some traction with the vBulletin support team. I have been working with them of a little under a week on issues that clobbered BMCUser post-upgrade. Their top tech support lead is working through it.

As far as updating DVXUser, that was scheduled - and canceled after the BMCUser catastrophe. I am happy to work through freshening up some subforum names, please PM me with some recommendations.

Full disclosure - this is not my fulltime gig nor do I get a paycheck. This is a user forum where the revenue received keeps the lights on, barely. So please set your expectations accordingly.

Lastly, let's not get personal here. This thread's direction is trending the wrong way....

Amazing. Thank you Brent.

I agree. I have nostalgic memories of those days. They were very informative and enlightening—I learned a lot. What was said about John was disrespectful and not warranted.

Thanks for the update. Great to hear some progress is happening.

We have narrowed in what may be causing the issues with BMCUser, still working on some further upgrades and such....

Ah man, sad to hear that. Well, the new BMCuser forum has begun, and should be picking up traction by now. May not matter any more. I did some IT work, and I've seen how messy things can get even when there is a big budget. Thanks for the update. All the best.
