Blurry / Out of Focus Image

I recently experienced an issue on location with the 100a. When powering on the camera I completely lost the ability to focus (image remained very blurry). Powering down, changing batteries, waiting, and powering back up did not help. The camera has minimal hours on it (25hrs), and has never been dropped, jostled or shaken.

I was able to correct the issue by "resetting" the camera, and since then everything is working properly.

I know there has been some talk about this here, but my question is should I be concerned with this in the future? Should the camera be serviced? Is it likely to happen again and a lot? Can I always rely on the "reset" function to fix the problem? Why is this happening?

Thanks in advance.

We have found that sometimes the lens control gets 'confused' and doesn’t boot-up properly. Thereby, needing to be reset. I wouldn't really worry about it. If it happens again, try the reset. If you can no longer reset it to fix it, the lens control data may have gotten corrupt and needs to be realigned. That would have to be done at an Authorized Service Center. If that doesn’t help, then the lens assembly may have to be replaced, it could be faulty. Either way, if you do need to send it into an Authorized Service Center for repair, make sure you ask them if they have all needed camera alignment jigs. If they don't, it can't be done, and not all ASCs have them.

Hope I didn't scare you. Again, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Hey Andrew,

Thanks so much for your response! It really helps just to get some feedback. I'm going to be shooting in the Dominican Republic for a couple of days and am a bit nervous that I'll be without service in an emergency. But I feel a bit better now THANKS! Are you a sevice center or production Co?

this happened to my camera too....straight out from the box, it had this very same problem....and even after I pressed the reset button.....no change. the vendor promptly replaced the camera but I am worried that this might be a common problem for this camera and that it might happen again with my new one.

We have been a Panasonic Authorized Service Center for the past 21 years. We are also an Authorized Panasonic Dealer. If you need anything for your shoot coming up (i.e Batteries, tripods, cases etc.) give us a call. I'm glad that I could provide you with a little bit more confidence and I hope your shoot goes well.

Best regards,
