Bluescreen - HDV vs DV

This probably doesn't have anything to do with this forum, but I just thought I'd add it in for interests sake...

I recently did a blue vs green screen test using DV compressed footage (although shot from a better than average camera I'll admit). We have a permanent blue screen wall. I also made a small green screen board which I painted.

I setup the lighting for the blue screen and sat in front of it. Filmed for 20-odd seconds. I then grabbed the green board I painted and rested it up against the blue screen - under the same lighting conditions - and filmed it for 20-odd seconds.

The results came up very similar as you'd expect - with digital tools you can key pretty much anything these days. However I found that the green gave me slightly better detail around the edges. And given that it's your edges that really matter when keying, my results very very marginally lent towards the green key. Having said that the blue key job was certainly acceptable.

Keying can be done with DV footage. As always it's about lighting lighting and lighting. I'm sure everyone's heard it all before. I was going to provide a link to a good example of keying with DV but it appears not to be working now... heck I'll add it anyway, might come back...

I know I didn't exactly answer anyone's question will all that garble... but I hope I've said something useful :)

Well, being the owner of www.philipwilliams.com I can say it will be back up. Just not sure how soon :( I'll call the guy where its being hosted tomorrow and find out (its free, so I don't complain too much).

By the way, a fellow sent me some DV greenscreen footage recently and I was able to get a pretty good key out of it, even with some uneven lighting on the screen. AE's Keylight filter is outstanding.

Yes, Keylight is amazing. I keyed this shot with it. This was shot indoors with a Canon GL2. I keyed in the background clouds, etc.
