Blue screen + Tv Simulator

I want to go for a blue screen background, taken out then the foreground character changed to a bad TV simulator look. How can I just cut out the main person/people and not make the background take on the TV look? Kinda wanna give them the hologram look like on starwars on different backgrounds..... Any ideas?

I have found that when you chromakey out a background and then apply an effect like the TV simulator or film effects, it applies it to the entire frame, even the part keyed out.

I have not played with it that much to see if there’s a workaround. I’m wondering if you could do the key in After Effects or Commotion and export an AVI with an alpha channel – would it still apply the effect to the entire frame? Possibly. I’m not sure. You could try.

I've never had a problem with keying out part of an image and applying TV simulator to the remaining parts of the image. However, it seems as if other fliters apply the effect to the whole frame no matter what.

Rotoscoping or Cookie Cutter-ing are not necessary. Here's the easiest way I've found:

1)Create 2 Video Tracks ("Track A" and "Track B")
2)Place a video clip ("Clip A") on the uppermost track (Track A)
3)Duplicate Clip A (Ctrl+drag clip) and place the copy ("Clip B") on the underlying track (Track B) directly below Clip A
4)Apply the Chroma Keyer fliter to Clip A (Note: you might want to mute Track B while applying this filter so that you can see the effect)
5)Once you've got a good key, place a check in the "Show mask only" checkbox
6)Now, unmute Track B and click on the "Make compositing child" button. This will use the mask you just created on Track A act as an alpha channel for Track B.
7)Apply your desired effects to Clip B. The effects should only be visible where the mask (Clip A) is white.

Ta-da! :) That wasn't too hard was it? :)

Hope this helps.

Just an idea: can't you apply chroma key to your blue screen clip, set it up untill you are satisfied and then render to new track.
On rendered clip you apply the new (tv simulator) effect.

Voila!

(At least when I do it) chroma keying goes away when rendering to a new track. The keyed-out parts go black...not "invisible"
