Blue is the Warmest Color

A couple days ago I decided to watch Blue is the Warmest Color. Really didn't know much about what to expect, knew it won the Palme d'Or and I had heard about the extensive sex scenes, but not much else. Initially I liked it, I felt it dragged at times but felt very real. After a few days to let it sink in, it has grown on me a lot. I learned from a little reading that the French title translates to "The Life of Adele, Chapters One and Two" and that's exactly what it was. I felt like I had just viewed a portion of a real life, and a coming of age for Adele. I've recently been trying to write a short screenplay which made me appreciate the story so much more. Creating a character-driven story that so beautifully portrays a slice of life is remarkable to me.

Just my two cents, wanted to know what you all thought.

I love a good plot and prefer romantic comedy, sci fi, fantasy, and action genres, also a bit of horror. I cannot get into drama or slice of life. I read the summary of the movie and I"m glad I didn't watch it. It's definitely the kind of movie that I sometimes watch wondering if something is going to happen, and it never does so I feel cheated and dissatisfied at the end and wonder why I sat through the whole thing.

If I did enjoy this genre what would make it is the performance, whether or not the two actors were appealing and captivating, and from all the reviews it seems they are.

we are all different. i tend to like plot-oriented stuff better than character-oriented myself BUT there are many quieter little indie films like The Station Agent where not much happens that i really appreciate that dont fit that description.

I read it was shot on the C300.
100% correct.

I turned this film off after two minutes. Something about the look of the video just bored me. I may watch it on BR someday. But the C300 may have been the wrong choice for this film. Nice skin tones, but the highlights felt wrong. Something about the tone and demeanor of the piece seemed to want more from the camera. May have just been the format i was watching. I will try a BR maybe.

C300 was an uncanny valley camera, looked so good until it got pushed, the highlights started to crap out, and the two aesthetics didn't mesh. I think that is what made it a surprisingly bad choice of camera for this project, at first it looks like film, but with all the natural light, sometimes the camera fell short, and it look videoish. I can roll with one aesthetic or the other, but mixed in one, it bothers me.
