I wanted to let other DVX enthusiasts in Los Angeles and New York City know about two upcoming screenings because this forum was my main source of "tech support" during the production. For that, I am eternally grateful. I'll continue to update this post as screening opportunities become available.

ABOUT BLUE IN GREEN
Using the human face as its landscape, this dogme-esque exploration of desire takes place over the course of one night, and was crafted by 'UNICA', a filmmaking collaborative that shares a group credit. Born out of a deep collaboration between the filmmakers and the highly gifted cast, this unscripted and entirely improvised story culminates in a simple and unforgettable moment of truth and beauty.

STORY
On the night of her 35th birthday, Colleen throws a party to introduce her closest friends to Dan, the man she is certain is the love of her life. None of them have met Dan, and everybody eagerly anticipates his arrival. However, Dan's conspicous absence begins to have an unexpected effect on the party, as truths unfold.

THEME
Blue in Green examines suffering caused by desire, and reveals for Colleen over the course of one night’s event, a path to confronting the truth of her essential incompleteness.

Very nice...Looks excellent. Does pretty much the whole movie take place in that one house? If so, was it hard to keep it interesting/flowing well? Tim.

all in the same house, yes. not too difficult to keep things visually interesting however. i kept the living room and kitchen soft and warm using earthy colors, a hallway was painted green and lit with strong key lights above, bedroom was dressed in white and lavendar only and heavy filtration was used to keep the image very hazy, and finally some outdoor patio scenes featured a background of blue and green color light, with a soft white light (chinese lantern) on the faces of the actors.

as far as the story goes we shot 50 hours worth of footage for what could have been a three hour film. every line of dialogue was improvised which provided for a lot of interesting surprises that few screenwriters could have conjured. the editor was encouraged to discover the story within the footage over the course of 8 months and eventually got it down to 91 minutes.

Wow...Every line was improvised? So did you have a script? Also, when you send it off to an editor is it scary that you might not like what he 'discovers'? Or did you work closely with him? I've always thought about that and it seems so scary to be paying someone good money and they may totally butt heads with your vision...How was your experience?

the story was developed over six months working closely with the actors to flush out their characters. generally speaking, the screenplay contained the storylines, subplots, character arcs, basic action for each scene, but instead of dialogue it contained opposing objectives for each character. as a very simplistic example, say one character wants to talk about her new boyfriend while the other wants to concentrate on planning the birthday party because she doesn't approve of the new boyfriend. this isn't something in Blue in Green, but its the sort of thing we'd do in rehearsals so the cast could explore their characters.

the editor on Blue in Green is someone I have a close working relationship with. He was with the project from the beginning (pre-production) and understood what we were making. What he was encouraged to do was "listen to the footage" to guide his decisions. this changed the perspective on certain characters and made for a better film.

Re: Blue in Green - L.A. Sneak Preview - Trailer

Wow, this looks cool. I like the concept, the use of improvisation as a technique...and I like the visual look of it, camera movement and such. The actors look very watchable and entertaining. Also really liked the graphics on your promo site. Friggin' great. If I lived in LA I'd go see this. Would be very interested in being able to see this in the future. Good job.
