Blu-Ray disk player 24p?

I really want to get a Blu-Ray disk player soon, and was amazed when I read that some players can play 24p. Then I realized you must need a 1080p or 720p TV for it to work. I have a 1080i TV, so I'm guessing it can only do 60i.

If you have a 1080p TV and a Blu-Ray player that does 24p, does it really play 24fps with no pulldown?

Could I get a 24p Blu-Ray player now that I can use with my 1080i/60i TV, but will be useable for 24p later on when I can afford a 1080p TV?

The 24p players will work fine with your 60i-only TV.

And yes it will be usable on a newer, better 1080p television.

I'm not sure if those TVs are "true 24p" so I'll let someone else answer that for certain.

Would you really be able to tell the difference between true 24p and the pulldown when watching one of those things?

I can't tell any difference but I suppose there will be some that will. Either way, it will look great and if your HDTV is not 24p capable, then there shouldn't be any difference between this and the way that regular TV and DVD's use pulldown.

every blu-ray you buy from a major studio is likely to be running at 23.98. pulldown is applied by the player if needed.

if the 120HZ worked as I thought they originally worked then they would indeed be a worthwhile feature.

It was my understanding that they simply played each frame 5 times longer to play a true 24FPS source. Too bad it just uses 120hz to interpolate and make films look like weird unnaturally smooth 60i signals.
