Capture Question... DVD player to DVX100a to FCP

I'm trying to capture some footage in FCP from a DVD and I've ALMOST got it. I think I'm missing like one setting on the DVX though.

The DVD player is hooked up to the DVX, and the DVX is plugged into my MAC. I've got Final Cut open and I can see the footage playing in the Log and Capture window. But when I go to hit "Capture Now" it doesn't work. It says it's waiting for timecode... crap! Anybody know what's up?

1. There is no timecode on DVDs so there is nothing for FCP to find.
2. I think but do not quote me on this. There is a setting in your capture settings that will allow you to capture material with no timecode. I know it can be done, Just don't remember where to change the settings.
3. If the footage is yours and not copyrighted, you could just capture it to a blank tape on the dvx, Thus adding timecode to your footage and then capture from the tape to FCP

On another note, Anything you pull off a DVD is going to have horrible image quality because of the compression.

In the device control drop down menu located in your log and capture window, choose Non-Controllable Device not Firewire.

If you want to stay digital and not send your video through analog outputs you can purchase a $25 dollar program called DVDxDv that will allow you to extract material into QuickTime movies from your DVDs.
