blu-ray burner for mac pro

[Finnegan]

does anyone know if there are mac specific blu-ray burners? I was checking out newegg because I need to pick one up, and it just occurred to me that I should probably ask before I went ahead and bought one, just in case not all optical drives were compatible with mac os x. if there are mac specific blu-ray burners, would apple manufacture them or some third party company?

MCE, FastMac, and OWC and Lacie sell burners for the Mac.

Lacie's and OWC's are external. Some have used SATA blu ray burners as well with some modifications.

I've heard good things about the fastmac bluray burner.

I've got a battery for my MacBook Pro from them and its great quality, I am sure the blueray burner is as well.

Are Blu-Ray burners for Mac only data compatible?

Can I burn a blu-ray dvd out of dvdstudio 4 on a Mac Pro for play on a Blu-Ray player?

No.

No.

Blu-Ray DVD authoring on the Mac at an affordable level is in its pre-infancy. Toast 9 does it, but it's very limited at best. Apps that work well cost a small fortune, and all of them are PC only to the best of my knowledge.
