Blowing fuses on DVX-100A

Anyone had trouble with blown fuses on the DVX-100A? Mine is 2 weeks old and worked this morning while prepping for a shoot tomorrow. I plugged a battery into the AC charger that was also powering the camera, and now it won't turn on no matter what I do. I've tried taking the battery off the charger and continue with the AC adapter, I've tried using known charged batteries. Nothing. No click, no light on for even an instant, no nothing.

Frustrating though it may be, I am willing to take this in for repair, but the larger question is: what did I do wrong? I need to know what to avoid in the future, since I was doing nothing that I would have guessed would have been outside any reasonable idea of standard use.

Any info would be appreciated.

I don't have the manual in front of me, but I thought I had read that you are not supposed to do that.I hope it's not fried.

Re: Blowing fuses on DVX-100A

I read somewhere that you cannot run the a/c adapter and charge a battery at the same time. Don't know why, it seems to be a simple concept and other cameras do it, but it apparently is a no-no with the DVX.

Re: Blowing fuses on DVX-100A

You can't run them both together because, when you have a battery on the charger no power goes out through the plug to the camera. I guess it is sort of a safety measure, I"m not sure why, also not sure how it would fry your camera. That sucks.

Re: Blowing fuses on DVX-100A

Scharky's right you can't run the camera from the charger while you have a battery on it but it shouldn't have fried the camera either. Bugger! you've got to hate it when sh*t goes wrong :(

Re: Blowing fuses on DVX-100A

As an experiment I tried that once...plugged in a battery onto the adapter and had the the camera interface on as well. You can't do both...although it also didn't fry my camera.

Re: Blowing fuses on DVX-100A

yeah its almost impossible for that adapter to fry the camera... there are no peaks when you change the 2 unless it was some freak accident and the 120v > 12v conversion went nutso.

Have you tried powering the camera through the DC hole behind the battery spot on the camera instead of the "snapin" dummy adapter? It is possilble that one of your power pins could of been bent.

I think I did the same thing, where I had a battery in the slot while having the dc plate adapter thing plugged in my camera, and now my camera can no longer be powered by it. In fact, whenever I plug the dc cable into the ac adapter the power light shuts off. Don't tell me I need to get a new ac adapter....

its for this reason I will never run my camera off AC. Its also becuase I am leary of surges. I hope its just a fuse.

The reason you can not do both, the adapter has only so much power delivering capability. In order to power the camera, and to charge the battery at the same time, it would have to be bigger, and more expensive to make.

So what is everyone saying, that the charger burned out or the camera fuse burned out?

For me, the only that doesn't work is the DC adapter. I want to say the problem's somewhere between the camera and the ac adapter, like a switch for the charger versus DC... but I'm not really sure. The bottom line is that the camera seems to be all right.

Well if it's just the charger that's an easy $75 fix (buy another charger). But if the internal plug on the camera is burnt, that's different. Have you tried another charger yet?
