Blowin' Coke???

Anyone know how to fake someone doing lines of cocaine? I mean, we wouldn't be using coke of course, maybe crushed up tylonol or somethin, but regardless of what our "coke" is, I don't want the talent to be puttin stuff up their nose, but the line has to dissapear... Safety thing ya know... If anyone also has a better "coke" to use, lemme know about it, too. Thanks guys.
 
Tylenol will sting a bit. Most common substitutions are

Something to know about what you're doing... The reason coke is snorted is because it is absorbed through the nasal tissue right next door to the brain where it works its wonders. And that's going to be true of anything you shove up there. So be careful and make sure whatever you substitute is chemically harmless.

There are other means of faking it that don't require the performer to ingest anything. That being said, Lactose or B12 are safe.
 
I just had a shot like this last week and we used powdered sugar for the coke.

we used a rolled up $20 bill and basically took a small dirt devil vaccum and gaffed a small tube to the suction area thing so no air would escape, ran that into the rolled $20 and the actor covered the tube with his hand and we turned the vaccum on. This took about 2 hours to get right but it became personal and I was not going to stop until I got it. of course it was an ECU. the audio was unusable because of the vaccum. but it looks amazing.
 
To elaborate on what Zak said... when you snort something up your nose, you are going to increase the potency of it drastically... so definitely don't use another drug as a substitute.
 
Not a wise idea to snort anything up the nose. Even if it's sugar or something if you don't get the shot in a few takes...ouch!

Why not get a little computer vacuum, attach to a rolled bill & get the tight shot...then with a little creative editing you're all set and your talent won't have to see a doctor!

FYI... I remember seeing somewhere that a large percentage of US currency contains traces of cocaine. I was never responsible for any of these bills.

I did read your post... but thought he'd have better luck using s small vacuum
instead of the hugh Dirt Devil and hours of work you put into it...DICK!:happy:

Yeah, powdered sugar seems your best bet. I went to high school with some idiots and I saw a fair bit of them actually snort powdered sugar. All it really did was give them a sugar rush.
 
Use powdered milk in the future. I tried it after I read that it's what they used in Blow and it looks great, but try to keep the takes to a minimum because after a few lines you start to feel kind of sick. Powdered sugar is best if your actors are using it in their mouths though.
 
On my first short, I had a number of baggies filled with laundry detergent. The bad guy was supposed to pretend to snort some as a test. He accidentally snorted some detergent, and that was a mistake. Funny though.
 
Im my camera test I blew the powder off the table instead of it going up my nose. Happens at 27 seconds.
