"Bloody Mary: A nightmare Collaboration by Mark Harris and Timur Civan"

Well, to be fair I ripped that scene off from another movie, so to a degree, it wasn't hard to imagine what I wanted.

I was taking it from Obsession, the DePalma movie. There is a scene at the end, where a little girl is flashing back to being taken through an airport by John Lithgow, of all people, and as they pass through shafts of light, she gets smaller and smaller, as if regressing visually, to the stature of a child, the way she is in her memory.

Then when I told it to Timur, he reminded me that it was similar to the scene in Alien Resurection, where the Alien is cuddling Riply and carrying her along under its arm.

So we had pretty specifics in mind for it, from those two films.

But yeah, defiitely give us a review. I really value your opinion.

Super awesome. Steve is one of the most intelligent, classy gentlemen, with a devil beard you will ever meet. ;)

No seriously he has a 4 pointed gelled in place Devil beard.....

the handholding scene with the weird, scary waHH, waHH soundscape. I thought that was totally creepy and a perfect conjunction of the power of the graphic and the auditory. I've always understood, intuitively, that sound and music can be a significant for establishing mood and cohesion and even explanation.

Cool. I was actually considering the low effect to be part of the music, it being played on a synthesizer, but I suppose half of the score and particularly this effect works as sound design as well. Since I was doing both, I was consciously making use of the vague borders between music and sound design.

Right, this happened also when Herman mixed in the final scream. And I told him I liked the way that that scream sort of became part of the soundtrack as well. I love that stuff.

Nice little film, Mark & Timur. Bloody Mary was well rounded.

I really dug the cinematography and the direction...and as for the story, fughedaboutit. It was toward the top of the heap (I feel coherent storylines truly were the Achilles heal of this competition...but Mary stands out to me brighter than those solid narratives that were around for HorrorFest.)

Quite frankly, the acting was the weakest link for me (save for the evil characterization created by the black fella, and - to a lesser extent - the mother.)

And from Bensonhurst to Central florida. i give you a fughedaboutit in return!
you used to live in NY?

I think well rounded is one of the best copliments you can give a film maker. there were some movies that looked great but were incoherent, or vice versa. If we can provide you with effective entertainment that doesnt berate yoursenses we have succeded. Thank you again for watching our movie!

when things go wrong i think i hear a didgeridoo in there, Is it? really freaky sounding and it messed with me...

There's not a thing I can add to this one I'm sure, but just wanted to say great job guys. You definately lived up to the hype which was hard to do for alot of films on the fest.

My only critique would be (I know it's been said before) the girl freaking out in the tub, she looked more psychotic then anything else. Also, I would have liked more gruesome sounding stab sounds when she kills the guy in the bedroom.

My hats off, great job guys.

Tim.

Thanks tim.

Yea i wanted stabbing noises too... But SOMEBODY... cOugh cough said they were unnecesary.... lol

I think that is some kind of saxaphone...Herman can say when he comes back to the thread. I remember him saying something like: "When I play this Brazilian sax..." and I'm like you're PLAYING all of these instruments????

yeah well I don't like the girly screams he does in that part either. I am going to redo the audio in that part.

But about her bring psychotic, it's not a bad thing that that's what you got out of it. One of the reasons I cast Leah was that when she gets really upset or scared, she looks almost scarier than the monster! I wanted her to seem half-cracked by that point. ANd in the feature version I want to do, obviously we will have a lot more time to build that up.

Thanks for coming by!

It's actually a Latin-American bamboo saxophone on which I play so called 'multiphonics', which are multiple tones being produced at the same time on one instrument. Very useful for suspense and horror scores ;-)

Herman, I commented earlier on a particular segment of the score/soundscape that I liked. I wanted to tell you that I was awestruck by your work from end to end. It was really amazing to see how your work dovetailed with Mark and Timur's, pulled everything together and took it all to a higher level. I know that's the way it's supposed to work; just wanted to say I think you fulfilled your mission flawlessly.
