Blocky 60p

Just wondering if anyone else is getting super blocky images from the FS100 when shooting in S&Q 60p. It seems to be most apparent on stuff that is out of focus and high motion. This is a pretty big part of our work shooting action sports in low light areas. Is the codec really this bad or do I have a defective model or something?

Here is a full res example

Some of our previous work so you can get an idea of our shooting conditions.

I ran into this exact same problem on the FS700. Unfortunately, I figured out how to fix it after the shoot where we shot a bunch of 60p. But most of the footage came out good, just a few shots suffered.

On the FS700 at least, if you go into S&Q where you set the 60fps, you will notice that it defaults to "60p PS" or something like that. I don't have the camera in front of me.

You need to change that to 24p FX.

What this does is it automatically slows down the footage to 24fps. More importantly, if you look at data rate, when you shoot 24p FX vs 60ps, the data rate is at least 2x as high. For example, a 10 second clip shot using 60ps will be say 15 megs, but when shooting 60p using 24p FX setting, a 10 second clip will be 30 megs. So you are getting more data per second.

I haven't had a chance to really pixel peep it, but I do believe it makes a difference. On the FS700 when you shoot 240p, it records it in 24p FX and I noticed that the 240p footage has noticeably less blocking that the 60ps footage with the lower data rate.

Sorry I totally forgot about this thread until now. That seems to have pretty much fixed my problem though, thanks!
