I'm trying to get a basic idea were the camera should be placed when shooting a film. thank you for your time.

Hollywood Camera Work is the best material out there for that. It's a bit dry and the characters repetitive, but you won't find anything more informative.

Watch films by directors who are masters of staging. F.ex. Polanski "Repulsion" is a master class in itself.
