"Blind Date" by TheComo, Kegan Sant & John Labonney

Thanks a lot Jack, I appreciate your kind words. All critiques are all in all the flaws we've noticed in the movie as well. Like all movies, there's moments that you wish you could re-create, scenes that you wish you could have lit better, or lines of dialgoue where you think maybe you could have gotten just a LITTLE bit more out of your actors...but after its all done and said, that's the movie we came up with and despite the little quirks, we're proud of it.

Thanks again to everyone who took the time to check it out and leave some feedback!

Hey Robbie, Just watched your film.

Great job!

I found your story to be very sweet and sincere and you (and your director) captured those elements on film. However, I found that the story was a bit unbelievable only in that I know how much work it takes to learn sign language and just didn't buy that this guy could communicate so well on the second date.

That being said, I felt that you could have revamped your story a bit. Taken a little time away from the phone calls and shortened the dinner a bit to maybe add some more (or at least one more) scene with the young couple. I really wanted to see more of them and their building relationship. I wanted to see a scene or something that would lead me to believe that the young woman would want to go out with him again. After all, the first date must have left her pretty cold.

But, believe me, I know how hard it is to get a story out in 6 minutes! LOL. I am still trying to get that down!

As for your actors, I thought that they did a great job. The lead actor was perfect for you film. The woman seemed very sweet.... again, I would like to have witnessed another scene of her or something showing her "attraction" to the guy.

The overall cinematography of your film was very nice. You have some great shots and camera work happening here.

I really enjoyed the sincerity of your film! And I look forward to seeing more of your work in other fests!

Best and congrats,

Ted

Wow.

Very impressive work. I think you're on the right track and a diamond in the rough. With some polishing and honing I think you can have the real deal to become a filmmaker; very advanced for your age (That's a compliment)

I found this to be a very touching and sweet story.

Subjective Tech :

Like Ted mentions, some elements could be removed to move the story along with a nicer pace; the phone calls and the mother's dialogue comes to mind.

I think in time, you will learn more fanciful lighting and compositions; angle and placement of camera as well as more creative lighting techniques.

Overall, very impressed ! I knew you were a film junkie grasshopper.

I enjoyed your tendency to pull back wide and let us see the world you created. Many amatuer filmmakers tend to stay close, whihc muddles the frame, but you stayed wide more often than not and I think that was nice.

Wow.

I love the compliments guys, thanks so much.

I will definitely be entering more fest (that means ALL of them)

You guys really inspired me to do more work.

Special thanks to Jack and J.R and Ted, (and for others that I forgot to mention)

You guys gave me a well thought out post and I aprpeciate it!

(Thanks Jack for the cutom new name :))

Kegan, I just wanted to add acknowledgment to you for Directing this.

Nice work! Together you guys pulled off a pretty good movie.
I loved John's script when he ran it by me. I told him that this script had a real moment in it.

Cheers,

Mike

Hey good work here man, I didn't realize you were so young.

I thought the acting was fine, although I agree with the comments about the mom. I just think the scene in the car with her protesting could use a little more work, but I understand working with non actors.

Also I wish that in the dinner date scene at the end we learned a little more about the girl. That way we could fall for her more as a person and less just because she has a handicap.

Otherwise great location at the restaurant, and I enjoyed this piece throughout. Keep up the good work.

Como... are you kidding me? Dude, I rarely ever comment on the films but I have to say something this time. You really delivered. Way, way beyond my expectations. You've probably shown the fastest and most impressive arc from "know-nothing-neophyte-who-annoys-us-with-too-many-questions" to "accomplished DVXFest filmmaker with a story of substance."

Well done. Not to get too smarmy, but seeing this does make us proud. This is what DVXUser is all about -- a filmmaker's incubator. You done us proud.

(no it's not perfect, yes it can be improved, blah blah -- but that's what the next fest is for, and now you really have some expectations to fulfill! )

If memory serves, you picked up this script from John, right? I love that sort of collaboration. A great job and your actor had the perfect attitude. Also, the dude on the phone was great! I wish he had a bigger part.

This was such a great little quirky love story. This is how you use 6 minutes effectively. What a nice reminder of the importance of story.

Thanks Barry. Feels good to hear from ya'll.

Mark, I wish he had a bigger role as well. He is a great actor IMHO.

Maybe for the next fest?

Ok, Como.... Watched your film.

Pick a custom user title. Any title :) You've earned it. The people have spoken...

Good job, man. I'm proud of you too. You've come a long way in a short time. I don't need to elaborate further.

Later,
Jason

Damn I need to get home and see this - I had a few minutes to spare last night and all I've seen is Zak's (fantastic!) and Jack's(special...). Looking forward to this one Robbie - I'll go ahead and say early congrats on what sounds like a great film from the other posts. EL COMO FOR PRESIDENT!

Thanks Jason, I don't know what to pick!
