Bless Me Father For I Have Sinned...

Terence, the Z1 is a great camera and gives a fantastic picture, noise free, and also it works better in low light situations. No problems with editing either as it's fully supported with all NLE's.

I owned an FX1 and to be honest t gave a much cleaner image than I have ever got out of a HVX200. No noise, better low light and no probs editing. Downside of course is 4:2:0 and HDV, but really that's not much of a problem.

Enjoy using it. You have not made a mistake so no need to say 1000 hell Mary's!

We have 12 AVIDs here and HDV is a nightmare with all of them, even using the Miranda box and our Nitris Symphony. We are now dubbing all HDV to DVCProHD so that we can actually successfully capture it.

HDV has a LOT of TC glitches on re-capture, DVCProHD doesn't.

Dan

First I've heard of this . . . .

Earlier on I was told to say 100 HVX Mary's, now it's 1000 Hell Mary's!

It's been really interesting to see your comments and what I regret is not being in a position to be a HVX user right now.
I'd love to make movies, direct actors, talk with the DP about how to do a shot, etc. etc. and in all that use the HVX to shoot beautiful, controlled images.
Ever since I got into video I've been moving forward, slowly but surely. I started like everyone doing home moves, then weddings, now I'm into music videos and I might even have a Jazz documentary on TV in Ireland by the end of the year.

So things are moving ahead. I would love to do more documentaries. But even in documentaries I would still feel a bit limited by the HVX as it is right now. But I would be totally liberated with 10 64-GB cards and that time will come.

So I'll just keep on progressing and learning with the Sony. Isn't it absolutely amazing the volume of information there is to learn about making a film. I feel very ignorant in many areas and I spend hours and hours at it!! :(

Once again I love seeing your comments and feel a bit reassured about the Sony. BTW here's a good link about a project shot in Las Vegas with the Sony and Final Cut Pro

I had an FX1 for about 5 months. Sold it to as I needed the dough to buy a condo.

I was pretty happy with it, especially it's beautiful viewfinder and futuristic design. If you are doing mostly wedding and event shoots, for value I'd look no further.

One year later I was going to purchase the FX1 (not z1... too expensive for the difference in hardware) when I happen run across DVXuser.com and learned of the HVX.

I am now a happy HVX user, as it fits the needs of my indie needs better. But I have fond memories of the FX1...

HDV is only supported on Avid systems that support FireWire capture. Meridien does not have this. This is the same on Nitris based editing systems.
