Blank pictures: A flaw in the hack or...?

I recently bought a pre-hacked GH1 from ebay, and I'm experiencing some strange behaviour. Sometimes when I try to view the pictures on the camera, by pressing the play button, I see every picture as black, every picture looks "empty". If I turn the camera on and off this will usually fix.

I'm wondering if this is some artifact of the hacked firmware, or if there might actually be something wrong with my camera, or even the card?

Could it be that the LVF/LCD is set to auto?
Per haps it is switching to the viewfinder automatically. Try disabling that feature in the options menu. Or use the LVF/LCD switch to select whether to vew from the LCD screen or viewfinder.
 
Don't forget to take the lens cap off. I hate when I do that.

j/k...listen to rigs...look into the "eyehole" just to be sure. :D

This has nothing to do with the EVF or the LCD :)

All camera functions work properly, I can go into the menus and everything. The only thing is that instead of seeing a bunch of pictures like usually, when I click the play button, I just see a bunch of blank pictures (like they were all taken with the lens cap on ;) ). I'we also 2 times gotten a write error when I was taking a picture.

Any thaughts? Is it the hacked firmware or is my camera broken?
 
if you are shooting with very high bitrate for mjpeg it will not playback. not sure if you get black images. so can you watch your footage when you transfer to comp?

elaborating abit more on your end as to what you have applied with the patch and other info might help.
 
I'll try to explain this in little more detail.

Let's say I'we used the camera to take allot of photographs. And usually I can press the play button to view the photos. But sometimes, seems just randomly, when I press the play button, all the images that were visible before, appear as blank photos. Restarting the camera usually fixes this error.

Now this is not a problem with the EVF or the LCD, becuase I can see all the menus and icons as usual. The pictures just look blank.

And I doubt this is a problem with high bitrate videos, since this happens even when I don't have any videos on my card.

Any thoughts ? :)
 
Have you tried duplicating the problem by using different memory cards, preferably ones of differing brands and speed class?
 
Nope, I would have done that if I had more cards available. It's actually quite likely that the card can be blamed for this...
 
look like you have a bad card go get a cheap 2gb card and try it. it dont have to be fancy borrow some from friend and try it must be the card
 
I have tried another card, a new 8gb SDHC card, and it's behaving exactly the same:

After shooting some photos and taking a video I will either get a "write error, please check card", or the pictures will appear as blank when I try to view them in the camera. Every time the pictures appear blank (which will happen after maybe an hour of shooting), I will get a write error the next time I take a picture or record video.

I bought this camera of ebay and I'm running out of time to find out if it's a faulty camera, or if the hacked firmware has something to do with this.

Wouldn't it maybe we vice to restore the orginal firmware on the camera and see if this error persists? How would I go about doing that?
