Blade Runner 2049

Thanks. Film noir is a genre I have always been naturally drawn to.

An eleventh trope is water. I once read that water plays a role in many film noir movies, and it certainly does here with the rain. It also does in the climax of the sequel.

Interesting- what are some other water examples in noir? The ocean/drowning/grass pond in chinatown comes to mind

In Chinatown the entire plot is about the water supply.

In Touch of Evil the climax takes place by the water.

In Dark City the character keeps searching for a place near the water (Shell Beach) and the climax involves lots of water.

In China Moon they try to hide the body underwater.

I haven't seen The Long Goodbye or Night Moves, but their posters indicate there's something about water:

"There seems to be an almost Freudian attachment to water." --- Notes on Film Noir

Interesting. I feel like water symbolizes life and in each of those examples it is associated with death. Maybe the contrast emphasizes the death. In blade runner they work it into the dialogue ("tears in the rain")
