GH2 Blacks crushed with GH2?

Im using the Smooth setting with the Sanity 5 hack GH2 and noticed my footage is sometimes a little crushed in the blacks. I do not want this while shooting and prefer to use a more neutral style.

Any tips or suggestions?

Thanks

Possibilities:
1) Use vintage lenses that are lower in contrast compared to modern lenses.
2) Use a Low Con filter.
3) Add more fill light to your scene.

I don't really have a solution for you.

Am learning to live with the crushed blacks of the Gh2... but then I realize I like to crush them at the end of the workflow anyways. I've switched to Vibrant from Smooth to decrease the noise level... and so far it works for me.

If shadow details are important then I'd use fill light.

I don't find that I get crushed blacks. Properly exposed, my blacks are right where they should be, at 0 IRE.

I also like that the whites are at 100 IRE like they should be. It frustrated me constantly that my old DV camera would overexpose the whites to 110 IRE.

I shoot mainly with "Standard" color mode, and I am not seeing crushed blacks.

Ok.... maybe I'm confusing lack of dynamic range with crushed blacks. Actually, the blacks are not bad. I tend to want to protect the highlights, so most of my footage are darker than most stuff I see on the net.

Yes, I shoot the same way, and then use the gamma control in Sony Vegas Pro to open up the blacks in post.

The GH2 is a contrasty camera, which is fine most of the time, but night shots in the city or full-on sunlight with deep shadows can be a problem with this camera.

I expect the GH3 will fix this.

110 IRE is not overexposing with DV video. The default white-clip setting on an XDCAM HD camera is 108 IRE. Also, 7.5 IRE is the correct black level for NTSC video not 0 IRE.

Ok so any other tips on managing the contrast? I have the contrast set a -2 but still seems to much...

110 IRE is not overexposing with DV video.

But it is above the legal broadcast and DVD level. So it ends up coming down to the proper 100 IRE anyway.

And Setup (7.5 IRE) is a holdover from analog video. It's best not used for any type of digital video, including DV. O to 100 IRE are the proper levels, and the GH2 pretty much keeps them there.
