Blackmagic video cards lets you uprez to HD?!

I heard Declink was coming out with a new Blackmagic HD video card that allows you convert SD to HD...costs $2,400. Is this true? And if so, how consistent would the quality from something that originated on HD?

Re: Blackmagic video cards lets you uprez to HD?!

there are several vendors (AJA comes to mind with the in-sync speedrazor bundle) that offer these SD-HD cards. basically they are videocards that allow SD footage in "their own codec(!!)" to be used on the same timeline with HD.

i never saw such an uprez but i suppose they are as good as an uprez can be via high quality hardwarechips.

in fact what i know of the AJA - speedrazor tool you can throw SD - HD - DV and ANALOGcomponent (with the cableconverter) into one timeline in 10-bit resolution!

BUT: if you go for the HD card you need a HD editor, HD screens and loads and loads of harddisks to capture in 10-bit. also if you then want realtime you need about 80MB/s sustained datransfer from these disks, so a decent RAID is needed.....
