Best news I've read all day! The BMD Video Assist is shipping now. Very keen to see a head to head comparison vs the Atomos Samurai Blade which is also US$495 (am using a Ninja 2 right now on a music video shoot with a Sony F3. It is nice, aside from the low resolution screen and no SDI)

Does the Blade have SDI.. I read the VA has mini SDI (actually didn't know such a thing existed !).. and that the contentions were a bit on the fragile side.. which is why I don't want to ever use HDMI.. ?

yes the Blade has SDI. I used it for tons of footage at the FS700. The blade is limited to 1080/30p as from the specs the BMD VA goes up to 1080/60p. SD card as recording media will raise the overall price quite fast compared to 2,5" HDD of the Blade
