Blackmagic Video Assist - 1080p 10-bit monitor/recorder

Blackmagic just more or less murdered the Asian camera monitor market. While yes a Lilliput is still cheaper it is going to be much harder to second guess spending a little extra cash to buy from a well known company. Not to mention its also a recorder.

Sucks that it doesn't record 4k so the recording functionality may be a bit of a downer for some users.

We still don't know yet what software features the monitor will have. I found that a bit interesting since I myself would market the crap out of that. The other thing we don't know yet is the quality of the display. Is it 8bit and IPS? Typically I find if a company also doesn't market that like sliced bread 2.0 then chances are it may not be 8bit.

Seems great, they said brightness display but I think they need to write the NIT or cd/m2 measure, otherwise is a relative word

But hey, for 499 price I doubt to have more than 300NIT, but hey a 500€ fullhd 5" with an aggregated prores for 1080p60 is very nice, so depend on what you want to record or shoot, you can have a nice 5" affordable display, or an PIX, then a Shogun - Odyssey till the 6.7" uncompressed NEXT recorder for high end.

Very interesting. Could be an option to get a bit improvement until I can afford an O7Q.
Couldn't find any information about focus/exposure assists (peaking/waveforms etc). Only thing you see is the histogram. Wonder if there's more?

I been waiting for something like this. I was on the fence about a Ninja Star, but this fits all my needs. Even if its mini SDI,its better than the connections on the ninja star. This will be a killer in the recorder monitor game.

Yes, Black Magic just drop kicked Convergent Design and bunch of others with this offering at $499. The Odyssey 7 $1295 is 2.5x this price and isn't much different. Of course the 7q and 7q+ have all of the raw features I am not comparing it to those.

My clients always want their own monitor for interviews and such. Now I can give them that feature, plus give them their own copy of the footage too, for $499 with only one piece of kit.

One thing to note is that it is limited to 135 degree viewing angle. Not bad, but something to keep in mind.

Not sure if I missed it, or I'm just blind, but can this record 10bit ProRes at up to 60P?
