Blackmagic Video Assist - 1080p 10-bit monitor/recorder

You are joking about testing it or not, as on BMCUSER we got report from two people that their is no peaking and only histogram for exposure.

Makes your footage have an Australian Accent? Pretty sure I was joking about that.

But no, I have not been up close on it and the peaking and false color was reported by someone else who did get to the booth - but I think they mean that BMD said those will be there for the final release, or after in a firmware update - but that they already intend to have them.

Apologies - seems the "confirm" is still a little grey.

I have a question about the "auto" start stop on the VA:

"Recording is automatically triggered on your Blackmagic Video Assist using your video camera’s start/stop button, so you can remain focused on getting the shot without having to worry about operating additional gear!"

Will that start/stop work for HDMI signals from all cameras???

thanks

Wow... I'm thinking of this thing in HQ or DNxHD coupled with the 4k output of my GH4 or the new DVX200 in Vlog. This could produce some ridiculously good 1080p footage. I will definitely be picking one of these things up.

one thing i find very interesting is that he said it will take in 4K and downconvert/record 1080 from it, that would result in super sharp 1080.

furthermore, if it can downscale 4k on the fly... what else might that hardware be capable of doing with 4k... ;)

Like record a cropped image instead of downsampled maybe? It would be like having a second camera through the same lens. Awesome for interviews!

I seriously hope it's NOT a hyperdeck shuttle with a monitor, I've tried that and it returned it after one shoot.

I think the info page on the BlackMagic web site says that it will "monitor" 4K input, which I assume means it will show it on the screen but will not record 4K as downsampled HD. I hope it does, but it seems too good to be true.

Seems odd the it wouldn't be able to record downscaled since it clearly has to scale the 4k to 1080p for its lcd panel anyway...

If it has focus assist and false color this would be the best bang for the buck on the market. I don't think I would buy a monitor without
false color though even if it's a great deal like this.
