Blackmagic Studio Camera

Finally - they make a camera I don't want to pre-order. I imagine it will be pretty cool for those with small studios though.

I felt the same way at first glance, but knowing them, they never fall short on specs for the dollar. Maybe this will be an HFR option.

Is it a more functional camera out of the box?

If so, this may be the first one of their models I want to preorder.

Press conference in about two more hours.

The official manual has info on the BMDS above, which may not appeal to everyone.

It looks like a neat and surely affordable option for small studios that want to do web broadcast, live, or similar. In house type stuff.

studio camera, n. a camera so big and unwieldy that you can only use it on a tripod, but that's okay, because the only thing you ever must do is zoom every now and then.

How is this any better than a frankenrig? The problem with a frankenrig is that it's big and unwieldy, but the studio is the one place that doesn't matter. The problem is, you cannot unfrankenrig this camera to use it anywhere else. It is like a normal Blackmagic camera with rigging superglued.

Hmm, I'm sure it has a purpose but why? I was expecting a more traditional package with HFR and better sensitivity, hope they don't run into "trying to recreate the wheel" syndrome. I'm sure it does some amazing things like all BM gear however this design is not for me, I rarely work in a studio setting anyway.

Looks like they're going with the 10 inch lcd screen for now.

Now a bad idea with the screen, would be great if it came un-attached to the body though! :)

So this camera comes with an active MFT mount and XLR.
I wish I could send in my BMCC MFT and have them upgrade it….
I hardly use my BMCC. Nice picture but it is a pain to use outside.

Have the 10" screen de-tachable & have the HD chip at 2/3"... then I'd be going crazy.

I do enough event shooting that I need a servo lens. And honestly if I'm looking at a $2k camera, I'm not looking at a $100k Cine Zoom S35 lens. A lot of 2/3" B4 glass is dirt cheap these days which means it is 5 years later and I still want the 2/3" Red Scarlet 3K for $3k.
