Blackmagic press conference on Thursday, March 2nd, 12.00pm PST

It really fills the 12bit bucket? On the BM it states that it records 10bit in ProRes and 12bit is in RAW. I was more curious if it was 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 in ProRes but it sounds like it's 4:4:4 and 12bit. Pretty cool.

AFAIK it does, but I haven't had a chance to try it myself, since I don't have an Ursa Mini myself.

All of the URSAs shoot ProRes 444 and 444XQ, but the bigger one is able to do higher framerates with 444/XQ in 4K.

I don't remember exactly as the numbers change when you're in different resolutions and codecs.

I'm really tempted to open up this extra unit I am supposed to sell and check, haha.

I feel like this camera is for people like me. But I’m still a little hesitant.

My small company needs multiple cameras every cycle. Not enough budget for a bunch of C300 mkii’s, didn’t like Sony FS5/7 images and usability , so went with C100 mkii’s as a stop gap.

The ND filters are important to us, ISO we exclusively stick to 850-1600, prefer working in ProRes…so the URSA pro sounds perfect; lightweight, robust codec, very nice image.

The only question is reliability. Can I trust this product for my business? We don't have the time for 'issues'. That's where Canon has been amazing for us, even if over priced for the specs. I really hope the URSA pro proves to be viable.

The ursa mini has been awesome for us.

It's not a requirement for a cinema camera. It's a plus to have internal NDs, but on a professional film shoot, you're most likely going to have a mattebox even if you have internal NDs on your camera.
Agreed. Awesome to have though.

The 4K still has the global shutter people love, plus the price point. (Some swear they see a difference in motion, especially when shooting CinemaDNG.)

But yea...the 4K Mini is pretty much the BMPC with HFRs.

Still a banging image for $3K tho.

The low iso is a bummer. There is no doubt about it. It's a shame because otherwise this would have been the perfect camera. Oh and the EF mount sucks. Why use it I wonder. It really isn't the mount of the future. BM are a progressive minded company. EF is just a stupidly safe option to implement that doesn't really seat well together with their M.O. should have used MTF, E mount, ... This camera could really use a 1 stop advantage that SB gives you and not to mention lens interchangeability.

And at 6k it's a bit much for such a low iso and FPN problems IMO. Especially when compared to fs7 which makes more sense bussines wise to buy/own.

Sounds like one of those "BMD doesn't offer it, so it's a bad idea" sorts of things. A macolyte kept claiming that 3D graphics hardware was a bad idea when Apple didn't offer any. Of course, Apple added a 3D graphics card no long after that...

Any one that calls JB a dick is a **** wit that has no runs on the board. May be do a comparison of there work.

The EF mount is the most popular mount in the world because of the most popular lenses in the world.

Whether it's good or bad or the future, it doesn't matter...too big, too powerful; can't be stopped now.

i dont know if its possible but a third party E-Mount with positive lock on the ursa mini pro would be great. i dont know about the electronic controls BUT its much versatile in adapting other mounts. i have several adapters to e mount. (PL, Nikon, EF, speedbooster.)
