Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

Why do we need HDMI again? I thought this is recording on SSD? Is it for external monitoring purpose only?

Well, being here on the show floor and having briefly played with it at the BM booth, here are my impressions:

Really like the touch screen interface on the back.
Nice form factor.
Probably up scalable to higher resolutions.
Did not like the image quality at all on the monitors.
Like every other booth, the set was pretty well lit, but the rang of this first gen camera was not up to snuff compared to others currently on the market.

Such as???

Do you think Panasonic, Sony, and Canon are nervous about the impact this will have on their higher end DSLRs and cameras like the VG20? I was looking at the software that is included with this camera and it's just extraordinary. I know people like to say, "You get what you pay for. There are no free lunches." But this seems like an incredible deal. I mean, it's still a lot of money. But for what you get, it almost seems kind of cheap. If video is your number one interest I don't see why someone would spend $3,500 on a 5DMKIII body when you could get this, and all that comes with it, for $500 less.

many independent companies produce s35 sensor but what i seen they are all 8-12 MP ...
thats 300-450 MB/S @24fps ...to much data for many ssd....

... Probably up scalable to higher resolutions ...

Meaning?

... Did not like the image quality at all on the monitors ...

Are you referring to graded pre-recorded footage, or live RAW-to-SDI? Either one of which could be set up badly/inappropriately or from prototype camera hardware/firmware. Not doubting what you saw, but some qualifications of your comments would be welcome.

... the rang of this first gen camera was not up to snuff compared to others currently on the market.

Compared to similarly-priced cameras? Can you put your comments in context?

Cheers.

The LUT / viewing system is probably very poor, especially in comparison to established cameras such as RED and Alexa. They probably only slap on a rudimentary rec709 LUT??

yes but there is a problem with global shutter mode ...
u lose dynamic range ....about two stops ....Cypress (they design ALEXA sensor) offer global shutter but ARRI didnt want to lose DR....

Not sure. That sensor you link to also states a global shutter rolling shutter selectable.

Also, maximum frame rate (100) doesn't match the BMD camera. Surely, if they could, they would have tried to use the maximum frame rate (or at least 60fps) if they were using that sensor?

max sensor rates doesn't mean that camera hardware can sustain data rates ....
and if u read carefully its 100fps in global shutter mode ...
in rolling shutter mode is 30 fps....
and dont forget 60 fps is 300MB/s DNG ...
u need fastest ssd ...

No complaints about lack of built-in NDs, no overcranking, form factor, (extremely :)) uncomfortable viewfinder location? What's wrong with us? :) "RAW" must be very powerful spell in video world, LOL

I'm intrigued to see how this camera integrates with Blackmagic's Television Studio and ATEM products; collectively, they look like an extremely cost-effective way of running a multicamera setup. The AF100's dynamic range and shadow/highlight handling are causing me problems in high-contrast theatre environments - the Cinema Camera could be an attractive alternative if the image holds up at, say, 800 ISO or so. Is it the cheapest camera with SDI?

One oddity: the ATEM switchers are 1080i or 720p; no 1080p. Hopefully we'll see them updated to match the (1080p) Cinema Camera. For web delivery, I'd much rather avoid interlacing anywhere.

Otherwise I'd echo everyone else's comments: I'm concerned about lens mounts, the non-swappable battery, and low light shooting. But I'm probably not concerned enough to prevent me from buying one.

I think it's more a case of: Decent HD (even though it can do more than HD) is a powerful spell. If you read John Brawley's blog he mentions that this is being made in light of DSLRs and their disadvantages (especially the codec). We don't have proper HD on the lower end. Hopefully this is it.
