Other: BlackMagic Cinema camera!!!! 2.5k for 3k...

That's one hell of an HV20 rig, Zephernoid, I keep mine fairly naked, except for maybe steadicam. Do you find being that high above the tripod messes with tilt axis? I think I'd move a lot of that stuff back on a nice offset shoulder ring, to allow for smooth handheld. Not critical, just preference. And thanks for the battery info.
That's my first rig. Note the terrible Manfrotto head/ tripod. I have since changed it a lot - I only use a single Tekkeon battery below, mostly for emergency power though my higher cap camera batteries mitigate that need. Added a zoom H4N to the left of the rig and I use different lights and wireless now. Can't wait to ditch the lot in favor of a new camera !!! Sure the center of gravity was too high for tilts but who tilts that much without panning too? My big score was the red Cokin P series filter hood. Unobtanium now ;)

Some Pans on a Tripod of the same scene - a scene with stuff at multiple distances from the Camera, done at increasing speeds and a variety of Lens Lengths would also be useful to see where the jello kicks in.

And yep, I am aware of Panning Speeds, Skipping, etc.

Just be nice to see how this Camera performs.

Though I understand this is obviously quite a bit of times worth and a bit tedious to do.

Isn't this table correct for corresponding focal lengths?
Should it look like this? Seems you had some switched around before.
FS100 (1.5)
5D (1)

I agree with your points Rick. What would be really neat is if the BMC camera could double as a HyperDeck Shuttle2 to record 4:2:2 off the FS700. Possible? Impractical?

Or you could just buy a HyperDeck which is pretty cheap and a much smaller thing to have to haul around if you are using another camera. You can swap whatever SSD you would use with the BM camera and use it with the Hyperdeck.

No, my table is correct. Think about it, the BM has a smaller sensor so the values of the focal length have to be the smallest for the same FOV. What I am showing is the lenses with the same FoV on all three cameras.

The math is quite simple.

If you put 45mm on the 5D, then to get that same focal length you divide by 2.3 or basically 20mm on the BM.

Tripod recommendation?

I'm in the market for a decent tripod for this camera. { I'm tired of the walmart, plastic pieces, NO fluid head, camera
jerks and almost falls off the head type tripods. Ive got a bunch. } What would be a good budget tripod for this camera: considering the 4lb weight + lens, and boxy ergonomics? I do mostly one man , run and gun features.

thanks

Your chart had the 20 on the 5D.

@Rick Burnett
your correct ...
20mm is about 46mm on 5d2
about DR ...
as i said... i think they use Fairchild sCMOS .. its only sensor on market who is in the spec of DMB camera...
and if they do than thats a good thing because that sensor is cutting edge of cmos technology...
it rates 88db of DR almost 15 stops ...and it has huge 6.5 pixels same as 1dx....
but there is difference between sensor rated DR and usable DR (ABOUT TWO STOPS) ...RED ONE sensor was rated 66 db ( 11,3 )
but in reality 9.5 was usable ...same as a kodak sensor from ikonoskop 64db 10.8 usable 9....

It's a $3000 camera and you'll probably put the same on again in lenses and other stuff. You should not be skimping on the tripod.
thanks, Im sure your right, but Im in sticker shock!

I was thinking something starter at 200 or 300 bucks maybe, something real lightweight { in case the cops come - Lol }

Not directly about this camera, but the related tech, with the obvious stratigic alliance with apple, the metadata input seems designed for final cut x, could prores be coming to the hyperdeck shuttle soon? Also a hyperdeck with this screen would probably sell like hotcakes, if they can price it aggressively against the competition with both hdmi and sdi.

You mentioned it's got to be fluid head - you won't get it for $200-300 (unless Blackmagic releases a tripod, LOL)

I respectfully admit I was confused. Your table shows comparable focal length lenses at the same POV?

I was just thinking in terms of 20mm on ff35mm BECOMES 30mm on FS100 and BECOMES 45mm on BM

One Lens different FOV's.

The smaller sensors capture a correspondingly smaller area of the core of the image.

Also, I keep thinking it but forget when asking something else. Would the scopes program work on an 11" macbook air? That would be a nice portable solution to keep near the camera, you'll need something to transfer the ssd's to bigger drives anyway, unless you budget for keeping the drives for a while in your workflow. As prices fall I could see original drives become like master tapes, or neg, on projects with a budget. Even raw is a fraction of the price of film, if you budgeted not to re-use drives.
