Blackbird Stablizer

I received a testng prototype and tried it before. It seems working fine. Only it's not quite as portable as Merlin folding design. But it's great for the price.

Yeah I built one of those a few years ago. It's not bad, certainly much better than hand held (and cheap!), but there is still a lot of side-to-side motion. It handles up and down and front and back very nicely.

I'm going to be practicing with it on my HMC150 some more next week - if anyone's interested in sample footage let me know.

Wow Blackbird sounds good, like a Merlin that can support an HMC150 without the vest!

Any reviews on the Blackbird?

This one seems light but I'm sure you will have a difficult time using this for more then a few minutes at a time. A vest is where its at with any stabilizer.

Also the Merlin is $150 more? It has less things out the bottom to bump... I would spring for that. We have the Glidecam 4000 which works great and cost far less, just need a vest now!

I got one of the little great ideas ones and it's awesome for what it is and how cheap it is. For low-profile ground shots it works amazingly well.. not so well for higher stabilized shots.. but look at the price. your arms do get really tired though.. but hey, it cost me 50 bucks! i will use it quite a lot I'm sure...

it's worth it for low profile shots.

Great find... I like the solder mount rig he made... gave me some ideas on how to work with the focus without having gears...

With Blackbird, the gimbal is right under the CG, so it talks less effort to support the hole rig. That's the secret of these design. But I agree with you, vest works better, but it's a lot of investment for someone just want to start with.
