What is the best way to shoot with a DVX100 and no monitor with the intention of switching to Black and White in post?

Thanks

What version of the DVX do you have? The A and B models have the option to switch the viewfinder to B&W.

You will have to think in terms of light and dark as contrast is one of the biggest things when shooting for black and white. What might look seperated to the eye in color will look like two similar tones of gray when dumped to B&W.

If you were on the extreme-cheap of things, borrow a digital still camera from somebody and switch the mode to B&W to gauge how your scene looks. Pay attention to your lighting ratios and try shooting some test using different ratios to get the look you want.

Reds, blues, greens will all come out looking similar in tone. Try working with your wardrobe and set design people to make dark sets with light clothes or light sets with darker clothes, depending on the genre of your film.

Good luck!

arhartman, have you found any way around this problem?
Thanks for all the other sugggestions aswell (-1 for use a monitor).
