Black pixels in bright lights?

I have been noticing black pixels right in the center of bright lights. The first time I saw them was when I shot a flare at night. I've asked my other video buddies and my go-to camera rental shop and no one has heard of it. I thought that it was just my camera, but then I saw this video and it has the EXACT issue. Look at 2:22' at the two spot lights.

Has anyone else seen this before?

Hey, I've seen something like this before. The RED One used to do it with early firmware when you pointed it toward a bright source like the sun and I understand that it was some kind of method of protecting the photosites from damage. The RED cameras don't do it any more, I assume the protection is still happening but they replace the protected pixels in the image with 100% white instead of black. I doubt you can prevent it yourself but the good news is that a black dot in the middle of a white area should be super easy to motion track and replace with white in After Effects or DaVinci or Colour or whatever.

Good idea with after effects! And good to know that its not a bad sensor.

Bright lights overload the sensor, this is a known issue with 5DII (and some other cameras also). Fixed with motion track masking.
