Black Lightning

It buys you a one-way trip to the funny farm? This looks like the kind of movie that Lee from True West would have come up with...

"Dude, I got a great idea...like, there's this hero, right? And he has to battle an equally strong villain, right?"

"You mean, like The Hulk."

"No. More machine-like."

"Iron Man?"

"No. Even more machine-like"

"RoboCop?"

"No. This is different...it has cars..."

Unless this is supposed to be a parody and I'm missing the joke...

No doubt it looks ridiculous. I just meant production value wise it looks like films costing ten times as much. Timur said this is the Russian response to Transformers and Batman. Transformers I can see...Batman not so much.

Transformers, Iron Man, a little Batman and Grease. With a RoboCop type cheesiness. But it looks very well made, yes.

Actually the story feels more like spider-man. Guy gets girl way out of his league, guy's father figure dies which leads him to fight crime (unlike batman which happened early on), and... he goes through the air?

But this is Weird. It's basically a superhero movie with a car instead of powers. At first I thought it was going to be weird but fun, about a guy and his flying car. But then he had to fight crime...

But yes, they made that 8 million go a long way.

8 million goes a long way because in Russia wages are very low in the film industry, commodity computer's are used (PC's running Linux or XP), and the software (Maya and After Effects I bet) is pirated (which means that it's very easy to find skilled operators for said software, since they know the software very well -- and because there's so many of them they get paid nothing.)

Compare this to Hollywood where the unions have a stranglehold on the industry, hardware and software is dominated by a cartel that keeps the cost of hardware and software artificially high, and studios own most of the facilities so they can pad the bills and reap a vast profit (before shooting!) at the expense of the few investors that can afford to dabble in film.

Too bad the Russians can't tell a story...

This actually looks like fun. Definitely a crazy over the top kinda flick. Nightwatch was pretty wild so I'm not surprised that this seems to be as well.

Did anyone else think of Repo Man when they saw the flying car in the trailer?
