I got my camera used with a 35mm adapter, and I just took the adapter off today because I didn't want a movie effect. I noticed that when I'm all the way zoomed out there's some black on the top left and bottom left corner, does anyone know why this could be? There's no additional lenses on the camera.

I don't have a mattebox, I have the square bit that goes on the front of the camera, but I still had the problem when I took it off.

i know you said its on the left but.. fiy... it's also on the right.

Don't know what it might be... but is it possble for "pixels" to die from NOT being used?

yeah i thought it was only the top and bottom left because i noticed it on the lcd and it didn't show the full frame. Also, I don't think the pixels died because when the camera is zoomed in more i get a full frame.

I don't think so, I'm noticing the problem is on each of the edge corner. It's weird.

When the camera arrived the 35mm adapter was attached? What adapter? When did you get it?

Seems to me if the camera was shipped with the adapter attached to it and as soon as you take it off this is what your getting, that this camera had an issue before sale (just speculating) and the seller has hoped you wouldnt find out....

I got it maybe 2 weeks ago. It came with the redrock micro adapter attached when I got it. When I use the letterboxed mode you can't tell, and thats what I usually want to use anyway, so I don't know if I should bring it up with the person I bought it from. Even if I did, I don't know what they could do about it. So no one else has ever had this issue?

That looks like vignetting which results from a stepdown ring or some other attachment in front of the lens. Can you post a picture of the front of the camera?

Has to be something in front of your lens if you ask me. Achromat? A picture would be good indeed. I'd contact the seller, seems to me it's damage if there is really nothing in front of the lens, but what kind of damage is a mistery to me.

ahaha! I was looking for a lens in front of the camera. But now that I looked again really closely, I just realized there's a 72-55 stepdown. The wide angle must be picking that up. It was really thin so I didn't see it at first, and was looking for a lens or something. It's stuck on there pretty tight and I can't get it off, but taht must be it. Thanks everyone for your help and sorry for being stupid and not noticing it at first.

Here is how to get the stepdown ring off without damaging the camera: put on a rubber household / dishwashing glove, press the palm of your hand flat against the stepdown ring, and then rotate your palm counter-clockwise.
