Black Friday!?

Is it a great way to save a buck or just massive hype? I never, and I mean NEVER go shopping on Black Friday. But the supposed "leaked sale ads" are rampant this year. I'm wondering if its worth it to get up at the butt crack or stick to my usual strategy by waiting a few weeks and hope for the best.

Anyone here partake in the annual store-whore day of Black Friday?

No, it's all just to boost up sales for the last quarter. I try to stay away from it, parking, people fighting, people being sick, etc.. Yes I'd say there're some good deals out there, but most stores are selling off old inventory or hiking up the price to be brought back down, you know the old used car dealer trick...
 
Tried it last year. Bought a bunch of stuff cheaper than I would have any other day. Though, I was on little sleep, so my judgement was clouded. I haven't used some of it, still. Awesome.

We really went for the TV prices. We wanted to upgrade to an HDTV. After comparing the prices, comparing the screens, etc, we realized for $50 more we could have 2 inches more than the sale TV, AND we wouldn't have to wake up before everyone in England was getting up. Worth it.

So no, it's really not worth it to me. Whatever you do, DON'T go to Walmart. CRAZYtown!

it really depends how much you are saving and if it's worth it to you to wait in long lines and have to deal with large crowds. i'll do it if i'm saving hundreds of dollars on a big ticket item like a tv, but i wouldn't if i'm getting less expensive things like dvds.
 
Honestly guys, tv's are much cheaper around super bowl then christmas. I had a friend looking for a new tv last year and went to almost every store with a pen a paper, wrote down every spec and finally decided on one.

One of the guys at the store said hey off the record you're better off waiting till tomorrow, super bowl sale. He did and saved almost $400 on his set and they threw in a surround sound for an extra $50 that was valued at $270 or something like that ... Costco has some amazing deals on tvs year round, and Sams club too.
 
I've worked retail for years and our store never had a sale on black friday.

We only opened early and stayed open late that day. The only time we put items on sale was after new years.
 
I subscribed to an email list wishing, hoping, longing, for Best Buy to offer a deal on the Canon 7d. The ad came out today and no such luck. You can go to their website and in the right hand column there is a list of stores with ads out. Go all the way down to the bottom of the list and there are categories with links to the ads for digital cameras, tvs, etc. Here's the link:

On a side note, I went there a couple of weeks ago. As I was pulling in, the guy in the parking space in front of me was changing his tire wearing a t-shirt that said, "I probably don't like you either."

Typical.
