We're definitely in a weird season to be buying gear, etc., BUT I'd love to compile a thread of links to intriguing Black Friday deals. I've had my eye on a particular lens for well over a year and finally scooped up a used one on a screaming deal last night via Lensauthority.com

For a gear owner, if you own it, you might have to bring it for free. If you don't own it, production has to source it, and maybe even buy it for you. I don't say that because I look for hand outs, I say that because certain products are only needed by the clients, so why am I buying it and offering it for free?

So, buying gear on sale, during a pandemic can be good, but in the tech space all of this stuff is getting out dated while we sit at home.

Cinematch is cheap and useful enough, that I am just playing around. Looks like a useful tool, especially with how often cameras get mixed these days. And if I ever need it? It will likely be worth the full price, so I'm not too concerned about sales during a pandemic.

I'm curious how you guys are downloading/trying cinematch? I've been trying for weeks to get on their site to download the trial, but it never works (tried different browsers too)
 
Are these limited to certain products on lens authority?

The Lens Authority code surprisingly appears to work on anything...just tried it on a RED Raven and it took $600 off the $4K price, ha. (Didn't buy it though.)

Or tell them that you "know someone" with 'piece of gear x' that they want/need and you can get them a good deal on the rental.

Sweet! I just scored a tamron 70-180 fe on lensauthority for $705, below my target purchase price of $800. (Its on sale at B&H rn for $1100.) And oddly enough, they didnt charge me sales tax?

This is what I feel like black friday/sales in general are for - things you want but dont need right away. If you really needed it, you would have overnighted it in time for your shoot. If you'd buy it for a lower price, then now's your chance

If they lure you into buying something you don't need/want, they win

Maybe lensauthority will have a used FX6 this time next year....more likely it will take 2 years
