It’s that time of year! If you’re a collector of plug-ins, now’s the time to add a few more to your arsenal. Here are a few things on sale that I really like to use:
Oxford Reverb from Sonnox. You can get plug-ins that make things sound like they’re in different types of rooms, but they’re pretty pricey. I actually get great results simply shaping my own from scratch with a reverb that allows the right kinds of control (hint: it’s all about the early reflections). TrueVerb was my go-to, but I’ve found the Oxford Reverb has more refined and detailed controls.
Soundtoys SpaceBlender. What they call an “experimental reverb”, this plug-in makes some crazy, trippy, other-worldly sounds. Great for horror effects and ambient tracks.
Cable Cuys ShaperBox 3. I just recently bought this one. It’s intended for music and has a lot of rhythm-based features, but I have found that its tool kit is excellent for morphing ordinary sounds into some pretty nifty sound design elements.
What else ya got?
