Black and White - Silent Film look

I'm currently working on a project that will require a silent film look for a portion of the scenes. I would prefer to go the old fashioned route of In-Camera Black and White with a red filter to increase the contrast.

Am I entirely out of my mind by doing this? Is there a scene file for Black and White or should I just B&W in post? Any suggestions for lighting?

We're working on a near zero budget, so any information to simplify the process is appreciated

Keep the FX in post, man. You'll have a lot more flexibility, depending on your editing and FX software. (What are you using to cut and do FX?)

I agree with Shizznid above. Shoot it in full-color in the camera.

Desaturate the colors in post. You can then add slight blurs, noise and film grain/scratches.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS Make it black and white in post. There's zero benefit from doing it in camera. What if for some reason you wanted it in color later on? You never know right? You'll be able to do that then.

Do it in post. There are a lot of things that you can do more when it is done in post rather than in cam
