BJ35 35mm Adapters?

Is this a new brand? I haven't seen any posts about these yet. They appear to be very attractively priced and offer a few models.

Something I'm confused about is the difference between their static and vibration model. Does this have something to do with the flip?

Also, what is an achromat? I haven't seen any of the other vendors mentioning this before.

Just for reference, BJ35's adapters appear to be hand-built by an individual who ships them out with a two week lead-time.

The vibrating adapters are $100 more than the static ones, and the price is $150-$175 for the statics (with and without anchromat) and $250-275 for the vibrating with and without.

Last time I looked into ordering a 35mm adapter they were still around $2000 for a decent one including support system. Can anyone offer their wisdom on these?
The price sounds almost too good to be true!

The person who made it posted on here last week. One of his threads was deleted because it was basically an advertisement. Not sure about the other thread. I doubt he'll post on here again, but you can always contact the guy directly and ask for full resolution stills or video.

I don't have any personal experience with the unit; this is just based on basic adapter lore but my guess is that you do get what you pay for. Based on what I've seen of the footage on the site, I'm not too impress. It's possible that the footage wasn't uploaded in full resolution, but I found sharpness to be lacking. It was just ok for me, nothing that stands out. My guess would be that the static unit isn't meant for HD cameras because the grain pattern shows up very easily, hence the price difference. An achromat is a piece of glass that allows the camera to focus on the GG; this is something that all 35mm adapter has, it's just not usually mentioned because without an achromat you don't have a working adapter. The BJ35 has no flip module, and the price reflects that. You'll still need a rod system. No mention of lightloss.

The BJ35 is a DIY up for sale. I believe it was built specifically for smaller consumer camcorders like the HV20. There is a vibrating and static version available. There is also the JAG35 and the JAG35E (economy) which are both vibrating adapters as well as the DIY35mmPro adapter which is a static adapter. All three are built by DIYers. The DIY35mmPro has a great reputation as well as the JAG, but the BJ35 is still reletivly new to the market, but looks promising. All the above options can be purchased with achromats and I believe all have condensors (Jag has a seperate PCX condenser, DIY35pro uses canon screen with fresnal condenser, and the BJ35 uses Nikon custom ground PCX glass).

I have yet to see a good DIY spinner on the market outside of the ones available on eBay...which do not have a good reputation.

My friend bought and has both a Jag35 and BJ35. Believe me, they are quite rubbish after you have experienced something like Letus or Redrock even. Of course its not professional, but the end result is something you really can't even use for home videos.

Not even for home videos? That sounds outright harsh, but okay. I'll stick with the SG or Letus or Redrock. Wish I could find a used flipper for like $750.

If he's mistaken and the BJ35 is good, that would make it the cheapest 35mm adapter, right?

Has anyone had luck building their own from the 'kit' that most of the big guys sell? I'd like to say I could do that but .. maybe someone in here can start building them for dvxuser folks. I'd like to support the group if possible!

I'm the creator and maker of the BJ35. Because I'm just starting out I source the parts and assemble after payment is received. Typical shipping times are 10-20 days from when the order is placed.

The reason I asked if the poster who said my adapter was crap was sure it was a BJ35 is because I know the people who have received them and none of them would simply tell anybody that.

Time will tell if people like my product. It's a design that originated from the snodart design, but I've made some changes here and there.

Don't believe everything you hear in these forums if its only a single person telling you. Wait for a consensus to make a more informed decision.

Still waiting for mine to ship! I've been waiting since the 16th of this month!

I don't want to have to call paypal to get my money back!

I emailed Chris a few days ago asking for a update and he still has not replied!

I'm anxious to see if this adaptor is any good.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs

Hi, ironically first post on this site. (LONG TIME VISITOR)

But, I just want to start out saying to avoid this dealer at all costs. I ordered a Static Adaptor from him in October. I paid extra for 2 day shipping because he said he had the adapter in Stock. I get the adapter along with an email the same day saying he forgot to include a step up ring in the adapter (oops).

I was furious. So he said he doesnt have any in stock and had to order them and it would be 2 weeks. So there my DOF sat until 3 1/2 weeks later he sent me the ring.

So I finally got the thing on my HF11 and what do you know. The groud glass is scratched and not aligned properly. I email him dozens of times, he never responds.

I finally get him a month later and he says he is going to ship me a new piece of glass next day and never apologized for not getting back to me.

Here we are 1 month after that email and he hasnt sent the gg like he said he would no answered my Emails. His name is Chris Adler by the way...

I plan on being a great contributor to this forum as I just purchased a D90 and gave up on DOF adapters for camcorders .....

I also want to chime in and say to not buy an adapter. I bought mine 10/20/08 and have not heard from the seller in over a month. His website is down and he has recently pulled all of his demo videos offline. Other people have filed dispute claims through paypal and won but his bank accounts are closed so no money was awarded. I am personally planning on filing a complaint with the Utah Attorney General's office and pursue a civil suit.

It looks like a lot of people got scammed. Did you see HV20.com? The mods over there told a fifteen year old kid to stop whinning & that it was all his fault that he got scammed :Drogar-BlackEye(DBG because he bought something on the internet from somebody he didn't know  isnt that how everything is bought on the internet?

Not to mention the fact that this is after they supported the product and ran a special HV20.com discount with the seller. Then when I made a point of requesting his IP details and asking them to see if he had multiple accounts perhaps he was logging in from, they refused and said it wasn't their responsibility. When I said that they should have some sort of responsibility and it is their duty of care as forum moderators to help us aquire this information only they have access to, they all went on a tangent accusing me of saying they were responsible for the fraud and saying I said they should refund us the money. I never ever said those things, I simply requested the information, yet they made a huge specticle out of it for some reason and tried to turn me into the bad guy for apparently having the audacity to ask them to look up an IP address.

And when I corrected them and explained that I said no such thing and the mods were twisting my words when all I asked for was his IP information; they banned me.

As for Jennzababe he has disappeared. According to the mods at HV20.com we shouldnt suspect him of fraud and apparently there is a valid reason for him running away with our money, not being contactable or replying to emails, or posting in these threads. Apparently maybe he doesnt have the time, or internet access, to explain to us what is going on. In the meantime he has deleted his websites and removed his videos from vimeo and youtube, instead of contacting any of his customers; but apparently there must be some valid reason for that too.

Chris actually sent mine, but when I came to adjust it, it fell apart.

It did not have the right size achromat, he insisted on replacing the parts that broke and send me a new achromat.

It's been over 2 months. And of course...Nothing.

I'm over it.
