Bizarre phone mystery

Ok, so I'm a bit weird and paranoid. I admit it. but this is really strange:

I come home one day to the usual missed calls on my house phone. Only this time one of the calls is from "unknown caller" and the number is from Florida !??!? I'm in Vancouver, BC, Canada and I don't know anyone in Florida.

Curious I looked up the number on the web (the number btw is 305-261-9999) and got two hits: One was a standard White Pages hit that told me the phone is owned by a guy called Mickey Schiffer. The other one was a website: whocalled.us

http://whocalled.us/lookup/3052619999

now I'm curious. obviously other people have gotten a call from this guy or service or whatever. but it's not clear what he/she/it/they want.

Now it's nagging me: Who is behind the number?
and just as curiously: What exactly is the purpose of the website whocalled.us?

hmmmmm

the second hit is a site telling you who called you, the website "whocalled.us" wasnt the site that called you, but a hit probably linked to google to pop up when people search a phone number. whocalled.us is like google for phone numbers.

if i understand you correctly

why dont you call him, "WHO ARE YOU, WHY ARE YOU CALLING ME, WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME!!!!!!! PLEASE I WANT MY LIFE BACK..." and then he will say "oh sorry i dialed the wrong number, my cousins number is similar...

Okay, this may sound like an urban legend, but my brother relayed to me a story of when he was working for a telemarketing firm. (Back in 1985)

Between calls, his co-worker got a call on his outgoing phone. It was another telemarketer telling him that he won a family vacation for 4 to somewhere. He responds - "Is this some kind of sick joke? My wife and kids were killed in an accident a couple of weeks ago and I don't appreciate this one bit!" and hangs up.

Some time later, the phone rings again and was a supervisor at the other telemarketing company calling back to find out what happened- supposedly, the caller got so upset and walked out and quit.

Heh....

LOL! That's hillarious!

Bonus: One less telemarketer.

- Mikko ... doesn't feel bad about it, as the ex telemerketer is now better off :)

this happened to me recently:

telesales guy(TS)

TS: "Hello, my name is David may I speak to the speak to the person in charge of the telephone line"

me: "Well, I'm sorry, he's not here at the moment"

TS: "When whould be the best time to contact him?"

me: "Sure, if you call back on November the 31st, he will be available then"

TS: "Thank you, have a nice day"

me: "Yea, bye"

*hangs up phone*

After 24 years running a business listed everywhere and getting lots of telemarketer calls, I found the simplest answer to the question "Is the owner or manager there?" is to say "He's with a customer right now."

Works every time. They don't bother you other than ask his name, and you give him or her a phony name, and if he does call back, you say the same thing. They have lots of other numbers to call, so don't bother you after that.
