Bit rate

I dont know if i should ask this here or in post production..Anyway!Im made to understand that the higher the bit rate the higher the quality of the video/audio right? So is it set in camera or on post production and how?And are there limits?

This all depends on the codec being used. SD NTSC DV is recorded at 25mbps and until you render to a different codec will stay that way through post. It is "set" in the camera but it isn't anything you can change.

He is talking about the bit rate of the file he uploaded to vimeo. I will assume it was an h.264 (mpeg-4) encoded file. The bit rate of "4000" is 4mbps (also = 4000 kbps). Much lower then the 25mbps the DVX records, but also a different codec designed for web delivery that is very efficient at low bit rates. DV at that bit rate would look terrible.

oh ok now i get it..Thanx again..One last thing..When i compare the 'Data rate' and total bitrate(right click the file>properties) of 3 Avi files that were all shot by the dvx i get...The first one..Data rate 2256kbps!2nd one data rate 2252kbps but the third one is 28,800 so im wondering how come theres such a big difference between the first two and th third one?The sizes of the three files are 771mb,819mb and the third one is 911mb why soo much difference in the Data rates?
