Anyone in NYC with KI PRO compatible CF cards have them available for rent on WED the 1st?

shooting a film on Wednesday on KIPROmini and i've never used it before. The KI pro came with 2 32 gig Sandisk Extreme 90MB/sec cards. In testing, i filled a card,in about 18 min, but it took 30 min to off load! the director i'm working with likes to shoot a lot, so i need more cards, if so how many more? whats your experiences?

i need i guess 2 cards. i have 2, but need 2 more for cycling.

email or PM me.

thanks guys.

You might want to contact Abel Cine in New York City. They are not only an AJA reseller, but also rent a wide array of accessories for film and television equipment; they may also rent Compact Flash cards (not positive, but worth a shot). They are a good resource if this is your first time using the product. There contact information is found here:

They have also posted a nice overview video of the Ki Pro Mini mounted beside the Sony PMW-F3 that you are using on their blog:

In addition to Abel Cine, you can always contact AJA Technical Support with any questions you might have about the operation of the product. The manual is also posted on-line and you may want to familiarize yourself with it before your shoot:

They dont rent just the cards. Noone does. And the places that rent cards dont rent the 600x ones. only the 300x cards.

Why did it take 30 minutes to offload?

Are you using a FireWire 800 or esata card reader?

Are you offloading to 7200rpm drives.

Half an hour is crazy slow.

I'd switch to normal prores, first of all. Shooting HQ is really a waste; there is no detectable difference between the two except in large generation amounts.

If your shooting 1080 24p ProRes HQ at 176Mbps it's 1.32gb/min. So 32gig @ 176 is 24mins, formatting and misc file stucture stuff prob ate up some of partition so 18 or more is right. 64 gig will get up to 48 minutes. BE SURE TO PUSH SLOT BEFORE REMOVING CARDS. And also un-mount (safely remove) cards from computer as well. You can mess up card that way as well. And no super long file names.

Yes copies. Look into the HQ vs. normal prores debate and you will see tests done by pro post labs showing how normal is the same but HQ did show an advantage when copied many times over, like when doing lots of FX shots.

I have a couple of Photoflash 533x 32gb cards that I use in the NanoFlash but I would not be 100% confident since they are not on the AJA qualified list. I did not even test them when I had the KiPro Mini for review. Rated 85 Mbps read and 50 write. If you want to take the chance I'm more than glad to lend them to you.

Let me know

Ned

Thanks ned. But this is a critical shoot. Gotta go with the official stuff.

I think I'm just going to buy one, and sell it off....

That makes ample sense to me. That's why I wouldn't even review the KiPro Mini using other than qualified cards.
