Well, all electronic focus from every manufacturer is ... blech. There's nothing unique about the Lumix lenses that way. In fact, they're okay, they're just ... meh. What you probably read was that I said it was nigh unto pointless to try to use a manual follow focus device, with a gear-ring, on one of these electronic-focusing lenses. That just has "silly" written all over it, and I think you'd be much better off using an electronic follow focus.
As for waiting for the Birger -- I wouldn't wait for anything. If you've got jobs to do, get the gear you need to go out and do them. The Birger mount might come out next month, or it might not. It was originally talked about as being released at the same time the camera was -- and that was last December.
Don't wait for anything. Make a good plan and go with it. The nice thing about lenses is that there's a massive used marketplace out there; you can pick up (and sell) anything in the world on ebay. So get what you need, and if the Birger comes out three months from now and it's the cat's meow, then sell what you bought now and get a Birger and some EOS lenses at that time.
But waiting? I'd much rather be shooting than waiting.
