We are driven by the excitement; annoyed by the speculations and negativity; and looking forward to making this announcement when it is time.
Perhaps not Twain, but well put! (and better Twain than Poe in this case!)We are driven by the excitement; annoyed by the speculations and negativity; and looking forward to making this announcement when it is time.
Thanks for the post, even if not technically an update...There is absolutely nothing new in this post.
Which is why Birger came on and said (paraphrased) "stop looking for updates. i will announce a couple of weeks prior to shipment. Until then, there's nothing going to be said or announced, no new dates, nothing like that. When I know for a fact I can ship it within a couple of weeks, that's when I'll announce something."all respect to birger, but this has become a pretty bad case of vaporware. i understand that i do NOT understand what they are going through to get this product to market, but the 'red' way that's been gone on about it is really quite annoying and why i stopped following the progress of this several months back.
He tried updating people as it went, and it just led to agony for folks whenever (inevitable) delays cropped up. So, just like Red, that whole concept of updating during development is pretty much a dead idea. Now what we want is to not even hear about a product until it's ready to ship.I don't ask for much as a consumer, and i don't think it unreasonable to expect a company to update their website with current info at least every other week for a product in development.
Yes, but unti lit's ready to ship, it isn't a product. Pointless to discuss it when you can't buy it or use it. I think Erik's taking the right approach now, keeping his lip zipped until he's got something that can really ship. Wish Red would have done the same, it'd have saved people three and a half years of Scarlet anguish.but in the end it's because i want to like the company and i want to like the product, plain and simple.
I understand and agree with you on all points barry, but i still maintain that it is the wrong approach to have more info(as far as i can tell) on forums than on the company's website.
Well, that would sum up a whole lot of companies, wouldn't it? Certainly Red has much more info on reduser than they do on their website, etc.I understand and agree with you on all points barry, but i still maintain that it is the wrong approach to have more info(as far as i can tell) on forums than on the company's website.
Agreed. Birger has taken steps to manage the flow of information. They have told us to not expect further updates until it's ready. Frankly I think it's the ideal approach. I wish companies wouldn't go announcing products six months or nine months out, where the final shipping product may not even have much similarity with what was originally announced. I wish companies would get back to shipping products, rather than announcing products. That's the approach Red has finally learned to adopt, and that's the approach Birger is now taking, and that's the lessons that panasonic and sony and canon learned years and years ago. That's because this discussion began before Birger changed their policies. I would expect nothing to show up on the Birger site until the product is done and ready to ship in two weeks, as Erik has now said. While I cannot speak for what he has said, it is my impression that anything said here was to aid in shifting to the new method of communications and promises with all the people they had been speaking with previously.
tomorrow will take a look at the AF100 Canon birger mount... #fb
