Birger Mount & Zoom

Hi Guys,

I've been trying to read up for a while and hopefully haven't missed where someone already mentioned this. . . would there be a setup where I could control the zoom from the Impero for the Birger Mount? I know that it's not released yet for the AF100, so I'm just hoping for some thoughts from someone who's got some knowledge about how it works with the Red.

Assuming for the AF100 it will also be able to control the lenses aperture and focus remotely via the Impero, it would be REALLY nice to add something to a set of rails to control the zoom all from the single remote! I'm asking way too much, aren't I?

Thanks,

Do a little research on View Factor before you invest energy, let alone money, on their control products. You'll find the longest thread on record at RedUser, and it's not a happy story.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Thanks Leo! I guess I'll just be happy with something that can control the focus and aperture. To be honest, I'm upgrading from the original HVX200 and rarely use the zoom rocker anyway. And hopefully the Birger mount is going to allow AF to work while shooting. I don't use that often, but there are cases where it's useful (and it was frankly non-functioning on the HVX200). I appreciate your advice.

I hardly ever found a moment where AF was a good idea and gave good results! Sure pre-AF is a commodity but as soon as its in record mode I have yet to see one AF of any camera that doesnt suck! And yes HVX AF sucks big time in HD ( super slow), and in SD as well ( especially if the background is full of info and moving). I am mostly doing run+gun doc type pieces and totally stopped using AF since I hardly ever have a second take...

Will the birger mount allow for an af100 to autofocus continuously with canon glass or is it really just for remote focus pulling? Thanks

I didn't mean to be misleading. I'm only HOPING for continuous AF with the Birger Mount. I really have no knowledge of this whatsoever. Probably too much to ask for, though.

That's a good point. However, I have found times where I focus on one subject, and move to a second. In that case autofocus is helpful.

The Birger will enable the capability, but it's up to the lens to be able to hold up its end of the bargain. And few if any stills lenses can do the job. They're just not made for it. Think of how an SLR lens autofocuses... in fits and starts. Then imagine it doing that continuously... it's just not made to do that. But, whatever the lens does, the Birger should allow it to do continuously.

If you want video-style continuous autofocus, you really want a lens that's made for that. The Lumix 14-140 is the only one I know of.
