Lucky Duck
Here's a few shots from my weekend shoot. A thrush and a pileated woodpecker. Shot using the Century 1.6x teleconverter.

Re: Bird Grabs

As always, superb. I have got to get me one of those lenses. Keep the images coming.

Re: Bird Grabs

Everyone's shooting fruit at the moment....

Beautiful grabs as ever - what can you say but well done Disjecta! :D

Re: Bird Grabs

Man you do have some of the best nature stuff around. I can never get my ghetto birds to stay still. Everytime they hear something that sounds like a gunshot, they scatter. Good job brotha!

Re: Bird Grabs

Thanks guys. Blue, that's where the teleconverter comes in handy. I actually shot these from inside my house through a window.

The woodpecker is the largest (I think) in the world, measuring about 12 inches. This particular species inspired the famous cartoon Woody Woodpecker, for all you trivia fans :)

Re: Bird Grabs

Thanks Zach,

I suspect your pedestal is set too high. I have mine set to something like -6. That gives really nice blacks but I do tweak it in post. Rich black is definitely the key to a rich looking shot.

Re: Bird Grabs

Awesome shots.

I love the way the apple matches the birds head.

(actually had a "heron" behind the house today, but it was so dang high up in the trees and far away that I just couldn't get a good shot of it.)

Re: Bird Grabs

Really great grab as alwys. I am little curious to know how the noice in out of focus BG behaves in the movie clip (specially in the first grab).

Re: Bird Grabs

The noise is definitely inherent in the grabs, not the video itself. The original footage (I'm looking at it on my screen right now) is virtually noise free.

I may have sharpened it a little too much for the grab, here are some original untouched grabs...you can see the noise level is much lower:

Re: Bird Grabs

these are great! really beautiful birds ..you make me want to get a teleconverter... im always trying to get closer to stuff, and usually i lose the shot before i can get there.

Re: Bird Grabs

Thanks for the comments.

IAL, the teleconverter is great, I use it as much as I use the regular lens.

enterdcable, the V Detail setting on my camera is 0.

Re: Bird Grabs

I've tested it, but can anyone explain exactly what the V Detail does? I've been bringing it down to -4 even -6 at points...
