Billy Bob is loco!

well it was obvious to me that they had a lil tiff before the interview started and the host was aiming at button pushing. This is only confirmed by the producers having him prod him more and offering a standby should he bail.
BTW, if you watch the video you'll see that at the 1:40 mark (Bob's already being difficult) that screen is blank! It's not until after Bob's initial statements where he shows that he's not going to answer questions that the message appears at around the 2:24 mark.

Again, if prodding him is asking him questions about the band then he shouldn't be there.

Really? He seemed slow, glassy eyed and out of it for most of the interview for me, and towards the end started blinking erratically. Here he is more lucid talking to Fox Searchlab, although still a little nutty (but in a good way)--

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbyHN7Zm4AE

BTW, those Fox Searchlab lectures are great...others to watch are Ridley Scott's and Michael Kahn's.
Watch the DJ's intro - Billy Bob reacts specifically to the things he says he's pissed about later. And by react I mean he looks up sharply then starts rolling his eyes like
'oh god I have to sit through this crap' so from the moment the guy says the things that are Billy Bob's hot buttons to the moment he decides to stop messing with him he's rolling his head around, smiling nervously, and then snap, completely lucid and engaged.

I think those are just 'old guy at 6AM' eyes, and he's in F' with the interviewer by answering nonsense mode, plus he's edgey I think because he's really pissed but doesn't deal with it directlt at first which gives everthing a tense edge - I get that way when I'm pissed about something and worrying about the ensuing conflict and trying to avoid it makes it worse than just dealing with it directly - say if he interruped the host during the intro and said - "now, hold on a minute, you know you're not supposed to talk about that and I just have to stop you right her and now if that's the way you're gonna start this thing."

That was about a ten on the stupid scale. He succeeded in making me not want to tune into his band, all because of his ego. I feel sorry for the rest of the band, this will no doubt overshadow them for anyone not familiar with their music.

I usually go for the simplest explanation, and still think he was on something. He references smoking something when he talked about having to smoke out in a white square in the parking lot. If it was nicotine he'd probably be more alert.

No, he mentions that you have to smoke in a certain area and that he obviously disagrees with that. Nothing more. Maybe they wouldn't let him light up in the building and he's pissed. Who knows.

Doesn't matter though. He was fine by the end of the interview and was just pissed early on. You don't sober/straighten up that quickly.

When I worked for a radio station my friend/colleague had to interview Jamie Lee Curtis. I believe the interview had to do with her children's books etc. Well, my friend asked her a question about acting (like this guy, trying to contextualize everything because she was an actress first) and Jamie Lee went POSTAL. She didn't even simmer or go from 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, she immediately said "who, WHO said you can talk about that!?!? I told them that we are NOT to talk about that...etc?" Then she rallied on for another minute or so berating her then pushed the mic away, went down the hall and dramatically slammed open the door screaming "WHERE THE F do they GET these F-ing PEOPLE!?" It was a small station. You were pretty much your own producer so if Jamie Lee didn't tell her directly to not bring up a particular subject, then she didn't tell anybody. My friend was horrified and embarrassed. This was her first radio job and it was important to her. Jamie Lee acted as if she was worthy of diva status.

I've hated her ever since.

Is Billy Bob trying to be Chris Gaines?

That's ****ed up. I can't believe people can act like that.

It really makes you appreciate the people that will talk to fans, sign autographs whenever or until everyone has them. Those are the people that realize that if it weren't for fans they'd be no where.

Exactly. I've grown tired of all the Billy Bob/Christian Bale apologists...

Ha ha, the only difference is that we'll all probably go see the Terminator this summer, but how many people on this board have heard ONE of the five albums the Boxtops have put out this year? :Drogar-Evil(DBG):

BTW, nice matching glasses, backup band.

I would be furious if my lead singer pulled that **** and said "The guys are going to do an instrumental version" and put them up there like that. What an asshole.

Yeah I knew he was referring to her, I never knew that the SNL skits had anything to do with her though - which commercials of hers the Activia ones?

Basically, everything is relative. I can't say that its "never" okay to lose your cool because it happens. And sometimes, someone pushes your buttons and more "conventional" methods don't always work. Christian Bale's situation for example...He's known for being a pr*ck but in reading all of the responses about how d*cky some DP's can be it made me realize that you can't always pass judgement unless you know the whole story.

But to yell at a girl whose interviewing you in the interest in promoting YOUR stuff, to get YOU sales, so YOU make more money...way out of line. WAY out of line. There is a fine line between losing your cool and talking to someone like you are a more important human being. So, its all relative.

PS Speaking of Christian Bale...this clip is hilarious. Sorry if its been posted before.

I agree, people who do stuff like that are living in a different world.

It's not just actors or famous people either. People who treat other people like **** all the time, espcially people that are in Customer Service positions (like waiters, CSR's and so). I can't stand it.

What the fk are you guys on page 4 talking about? SNL? I had to check if I was in the right thread. Get a fkin room man.

..........

...The host did nothing but try to talk about the band. He
asked questions directly related to the band, the tour, their ambition, etc....

Billy Bob behaved like a child.
...

The deal was, and by deal, I mean a request on Billy Bob Thorntons parts for being interviewed, was not to be asked about his movie career.

It's not for you to wonder why, or to assume that it isn't that that big of a deal because it's not a big deal to YOU. It's a big deal to HIM, so respect that.
It doesn't matter 'why', or because you can't 'understand why'. It's none of your god damn business 'why'.
He said it up front as something 'not' to do in return for him taking his time to come out and discuss his interests and they agreed.

This is the transcript of the introduction, as I heard/ understood it and have highlighted the points of interest for me.
============
Well the sound of Mod Billy is a blending of pop music apitimised by bands like The Birds and The Monkeys and (?)iewed with some good old American hillbilly sensibility.

Mod Billy is also the name of the new record by my guests The Box Masters. If the name Box Masters sounds familiar there may be a couple of reasons why.

Firstly Mod Billies is the Los Angeles based trio's third album in the last year alone, yes this is a band with ambition.

Secondly The Box Master's principal songwriter, singer and drummer is a guy named Billy Bob Thornton, who's other job, some of the time, is Oscar-winning-screenwriter-actor-and-director.

While Billy Bob Thornton's name is most often linked to his cinematic endeavours, the Box Masters is anything but a diversion from the silver screen, he's always intended to make music and he just got
side tracked. These days music is a major priority in his life and it's something he's obviously embracing.

(Video edited)...And I'm pleased to have all of the members of the Box Masters,
Billy Bob Thornton, J.D.Andrew, Mike Butler and Danny Baker here in studio Q, hello boys.
==========

Case in point...
If the name Box Masters sounds familiar there may be a couple of reasons why
But you F up on the why part dude...

who's other job, some of the time, is Oscar-winning-screenwriter-actor-and-director.

is most often linked to his cinematic endeavours,

a diversion from the silver screen, Oh yeah? Really you say?

always intended to make music and he just got
side tracked. Where the F did that come from? B f'n SHT.

........
'That' was the Intro. 'That's' where they got off to a bad start.
Thanks for letting me rant. Rant over. Ya'll have a good one.

I love Billy Bob... I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Especially after the host talks about how many listeners he has when cornered. It is evident that there was a disagreement... and it would seem they were trying to put pressure on him to honor the appearance after it had been scheduled. Monster models or whatever the hell that was FTW.

Certainly not a big deal at all. But funny, cause BB rules.

And he wasn't. He didn't ask him one question about it. He simply stated who he was for the listening audience at home.

Defend him all you want. He acted like a child.

People who behave like children over the smallest things get no respect from me.

Like I said... :crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:

Poor baby.

He took his ball and ran home.

I feel sorry for the band.

Exactly. Was never asked once about it. In fact, him being a sour puss is what started the discussion "Your not supposed to talk about that ****" started into a 5 minute discussion why he didn't want to. Then he goes on about how ridiculous it is that he has to smoke outside and so on.
