Bill O'Reilly goes nuts!

I used to dig him

Then, I realized when it came to subjects like child abuse, crime, etc he was as even as one may expect ..

But his political views are skeewwwedddddddddd (Faux NEWS)

(Prepares for lockdown by fellow mods)

Honestly I'm surprised the thread has made it this far.

Mostly its been about a guy making an ass out of himself at work. Only lately has it hinted towards politics.

People also mention how long ago it was.... was he not an adult when this took place?

Wow.

And people who don't watch him and really don't have an opinion about him or his show one way or the other (like me)...
Hmmm. You have no opinion about him?
Who here is subject to NASTY trashing in liberal blogs all over the world on a daily basis?
I'd say you have a very strong opinion about him.

But I digress, this has nothing to do with politics.
Here's the clip with David O. Russel losing it on the set of I Heart Huckabees.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4Qls1rAfYs
Does anybody care about David O. Russel's political affilation?
Nope. He's a raging maniac just like O'Reilly. The only difference is that O. Russel made a really bad movie.

Apparently men with a capital O in the middle of their name have issues with rage. go figure.

So the fact that I'm aware people say nasty things about him on blogs automatically means I have a 'strong' opinion of him personally? I don't think so. I don't watch or listen to his shows. I don't visit his website. So I don't 'love' the guy. I just sympathize with people who get trashed.

I also sympathized with Paris Hilton when she was being trashed not only by the media but also by her 'peers' (sort of) in the entertainment industry. Same situation -- never watched her TV show, never saw any movie with her in it (that I know of), never followed the 'gossip' about her. I never had any interest one way or the other about Paris Hilton, but I hate to see anybody treated abusively.

Like I said, I'm just willing to cut people some slack. I'm also a devil's advocate kind of a guy sometimes. But I don't think a 20-30 second outburst by anyone necessarily defines who they are -- only how they behaved in that moment. None of us knows what anyone is going through in their personal life when a moment like that strikes. God knows I've had moments of irrationality in my 54 years that I wouldn't want put on YouTube for the world to see.

I'm not excusing the behavior of that moment. I just don't know the whole story -- nobody here does, do they?

Behavior "...typically seen in dictators (Pinochet et al)... hatred and fear of all women." "This is mine, I'm superior, mine... mine, mine!" Awesome. "About to mate... looking for a woman to dominate".

Gotta love the competition's spin on this.

e

Hmmm......how many media and entertainment professionals who happen to fall on the other side of the 'aisle' would also exhibit this 'I'm superior, mine... mine, mine!' kind of behavior? (Like Alec Baldwin's answering machine rant on his daughter.) And if they do, is that equally detestable?

Or do we accept behavior from people we like, but condemn the same from people we don't like? I think we do, and this is a very basic element of human nature. (Good for character development!)

Consider, for instance, the Pretty Young Thing in your office who giggles her head off at the crudest jokes told to her by the young, handsome, athletic sales guy -- but runs screaming to HR if the exact same joke is told to her by the unattractive accountant.

The human psyche is an amazingly interesting thing to study. :)

Honestly I'm surprised the thread has made it this far.

Yeah, me too. On the other hand, it's an interesting exploration of human behavior. I'd love to see it go more in that direction. Analysis of human behavior is VERY useful to me as a scriptwriter.

Otherwise, I'm probably out.

This thread was better when people were posting a bunch of cool ranting clips for me to watch :)

You guys have done a good job here of not getting personal (and that's the key)... Talk about whatever if you must. Permission granted. But, the moment it gets too heated or personal... Lock down will ensue. Probably just best to stay away from certain aspects of this conversation.

Later,
Jason

In regards to my previous statement some pages back: I'm not defending what O'Reilly did specifically... he was acting like a little kid, and it makes him look like an idiot. I was just saying that without context, we can't pass judgment on his character as a whole. For all we knew the teleprompter guy had just finished putting up "O'Reilly is a moron" on the prompter for him to read...

As far as pundits in general, I think I'd rather all the news stations replace all their anchors with pundits officially. None of the major media outlets are actually unbiased anyway. And yes, people (myself included) choose which station to watch based on wanting to hear things from the perspective of their own political stance. So why not just be open about it, and have each station announce whatever agenda they have at the start...

I love Fox News, but while they might be fair, they certainly aren't balanced. And I don't particularly care. I know what to expect going in, and I take things with a grain of salt based on this. I only agree with their agenda about half the time, but that's still 49% more than CNN or MSNBC, so I keep watching.

I don't get the desire to have totally unbiased news coverage. Somebody sitting there just reading off the days events without any commentary or personal spin would be insanely boring. If I wanted a list of facts, I'd just read the AP press releases.

Thanks Jason!

I tend to agree. All major media outlets do have their own biases. They're run by humans, so that's totally to be expected. And we do tend to gravitate towards media that supports our particularly socio-political beliefs. I like your idea -- they should all just be up-front about their leanings, and let the audience gravitate to the ones they feel more in synch with.

I'm not sure I'd want to ditch the anchors in favor of the pundits, though. I'd rather see the news reported more or less comment-free, even with the biases and leanings. But that's just me.

Faux News are the worst of the bunch.

Aye yae yae. How anyone takes anything they say with any portion of a grain is a mystery.

The MSM (Main Stream Media) long ago abdicated their responsibility to report to the people. The corporations own them and therefore infuence what and how a story gets reported.

Interesting facts on the MSM

Whatever the topics, with War and Politics being the biggest loss, the MSM will influence the vast majority of people, who unfortunately can't think for themselves.

Poor kid. That was agonizing to watch. I loved public speaking in school but it's more than ok with me if I go to my grave without ever having to deliver an on-air address of any kind. :)

I think some could argue this is in the eye of the beholder, since in a way we all have a certain bias and thus a tendecy to defend what we love. I see that the MSM is severly tilted one way, whereas FOX News (proper spelling, sir) is probably the most level of them all. But most people won't see this because of their built in bias. We are all walking on a slippery slope right now where Politics are concerned, but that is my topic of choice, so it is hard for me not to get involved.

In fact, I am a self-described "political pundit" and I write for a political blog. I am trying to keep any political terms/bias out of this post, however. I thing there are definitly problems with all media agencies these days, but I hate it when people attack FNC because it just says to me they have already been taken in by MSNBC and the rest.

I have already said too much. We all have...

You sure you don't write for a comedy blog?

Well if this thread has taught me anything, it's that I never have to take anything you say seriously again.

lol! Someone strip that man of his custom title...

"If you can't beat them, join them." Right? I didn't want to be the ninnyhammer who whined. That being said, it gets to a point where you can't stand to be someone you aren't anymore. I have reached that point.

You know, Mark, I have nothing but respect for you. I always have and hopefully I always will. But with all due respect it is simply distasteful to disrespect me because of a simple disagreement. (I feel ridiculous with so many "dis" words in that sentence)

I think we are all old enough to act like adults, not five year olds, and realize that everybody has their own views on things and just because you don't agree with someone, does not mean you should discredit them or their opinions.

As a very opinionated person, I strive to constantly hold respect for others regardless of their thoughts/views. My biggest rule is to never put anyone down personally simply because I don't like something they have said. I realize the same can be said about morals/manners, as is evident at this point.

I am sorry that you feel you have to dip down to a personal level, and I am even more sorry I have had to write this post. I considered simply sending you a PM because I do not want to put people in the position to judge/take sides. But in the end I decided that I needn't be afraid, if anybody else is going to let their opinion of me change for a ridiculous reason like this, then that is their loss. In the future I will try to steer clear of any situation that may lead to me dropping an opinion that could end up sending someone into a fit.

I really don't know what else to say except this: I refuse to think any less of you than I did before this thread was started, and I only wish that you could say the same of me. But, as stated above, everyone has their own moral standards, pet peeves and sensitivity levels. I seem to have crossed that boundery with you, and I am sincerly sorry.

As soon as this thread was started, I knew it was going to end like this. In fact, I made a jest regarding the fact that this topic was a slippery slope on the political mountain:

...I am not sure if I should enact my respobsibilities as official Political Police or not...

Once again I am sorry you have let our disagreement end in your opinion of me changing, it is sad to me that it came to this and I can only hope someday you will get over it and respect me for my opinions as much as I respect you for yours.

Until Later,

Come on, fox has an obvious right tilt, just as msnbc has a clear Obama tilt and CNN has a Hillary tilt. The real question here, is which news channel has the hottest pundit. I vote msnbc's Nora O'donnel.
