Bikers Korner...........

Ok heres a quick history
Started out on the road on a Kawasaki GPX250 (law in australia required me to start on a 250), I dumped that bike (actually down the road), and moved to another 250, the Kawasaki KR1 two stroke, after that I graduated to a Honda CBR 600 (if you remember back to the time when Gardner was dominating then followed by Doohan - maybe theres some psychology there as to why I was into Honda at that time). I then graduated to a Triumph Daytona.

Now after checkin our Kimkos bike I felt certain that would be the next ride - a nice bike for a return to sunny shores. But I guess my old obsession has not quite died yet - I always wanted to own one of these - so it may be first on the new list. Something thats about as comfortable to ride as a fence paling.

Yo! Whaddup, Biker's Korner bee-otches?

Okay, I admit it... I have a Honda Nighthawk 750. Of course, it's been *sitting* for the last two years and will definitely require work/service before I can ride it again.

This post brought to you by PK for Biker's Korner Treasurer 2007 campaign fund.

I like the old classic bikes, HD Panheads, Knuckles, and even the Flatties. The BMW R65 from the 60's was sweet too. My favorite would have to be the Vincent Black Shadow B series. However, the Honda Rune really caught my eye. It looks like something straight out of Batman.

Man... I haven't ridden in 15 years. The last bike I had was a 57 Pan that I was building part by part. Then the shop that was building my motor screwed me. And then I got into a sticky situation where I needed cash really bad, really fast... Before that, I had a bunch of rice rockets, mostly the old 750 Hondas and Kawi 750 twins. Man those twins were nice! Not the fastest thing, they would top out at around 120, but they were unstoppable on or off road.
whoa! what happened to 57 panhead....you sold it?

I'm more partial to the state-of-the-art stuff...although I do have a soft spot for the old beemers.

You got it. At that point' it was more or less just a rolling chassis. 57 straight leg rigid frame, 47 extended springer from a knuck, tractor seat, and a Beehive tailight. I also got an after market oil filter assembly and cat's eye dash from the knuckle. I spent almost $3000 on a new motor build, and the shop decided to stiff me. But karma has a way of coming around, he lost his legs in a crash. I also had a tranny set up for the Tank shift.

Here's a little anthology of my more recent years... there are many off-road bikes that came before these... and for my friends a little bonus shot in the upper left... those two pics were taken 12 hours apart... do you think I hit the barrier pretty hard?

Yeah Matt, there is a downside sometimes. With my 76 Honda 550, I had a disagreement with a 67 Lincoln over the same piece of road. I slid about 20 feet before the bike flipped up and came to rest on top of me. My right arm was hamburger all the way to my shoulder, and the exhaust coming right off the heads was resting on my ribcage. it melted my ski type vest through my tshirt and into my skin. As I tried to shift my ribs away from the pipe, it put my raw shoulder under the flow of leaking gas.

I also T boned a Van, took on a grove of pine trees at 60, and a 6' chainlink fence at 60 or better. Those I escaped relatively unscathed. Good times...

Isn't it amazing that you can buy a bike that will do 200 right off the showroom floor? :-)

I've been to 180 lots... not much over that though... the blue one there topped out at 183... the red one would only do about 165. It's possibly a miracle that I'm still here.

I used to know this guy that lost some fingers off his throttle hand... slide, crash, chain-sprocket... he got another R1 and made this cool paddle thing so that he could ride with just an index finger, thumb, and pinky.

Now THAT is hardcore.

That will get your BBG and Oktava the extreme wind test... Hi Matt

Got smacked by a Pontiac-driving doofus one Halloween Eve on the I-10. Totalled his car, totalled my R1100S; I flew 10 feet and slid for 20.

I walked away from it (lifelong member of the Church of ATGATT), and he got to buy me a new bike.

The fastest I've had a bike was 140, and that was my old dressed CB750 Honda. That was in my "Young and stupid, totally amazed I survived" days, when I would zip down that narrow white lane between semis.

Well I sold my 1999 Harley Softail to buy a touring bike. Road Glide or something. Just couldn't pull it off this year. This was one of my road trips to Sturgis and a stop at Devils tower.
