I'm about to purchase a dvx100 and wanted to know the biggest difference between the newer version... like in other words will I be missing a significant amount of the camera if I don't get the dvx100a. Will I still be able to get out of the 100 what most people get out of the 100a? Thanks any feedback would be greatly appreciated.....

This has been discussed in numerous threads in the past and you should use the search function or just read through previous posts. To answer your question though, the biggest differences between the 100 & 100A are:
1. In the 100 there is a delay in the audio recording that must be adjusted in post. The 100A has no delay in recording audio, but there is an echo in the monitoring of audio
2. 100A has Focus Assist when shooting progressive footage
3. The 100A has additional cine settings
4. The 100A is a difference color
5. The 100A offers a squeeze function for letterbox shooting
6. The 100A is newer & more likely to be under warranty (if purchasing used)

There are other changes, but they aren't at the top of my mind right now. Regarding which is a better unit, they are the same camera. There are a lot of PROS on this site who still own and use a 100, so one is not better than another. For most people the changes from the 100 to 100A does not warrant enough for them to upgrade or change. If you are considering a purchase, I would always recommend buying new rather than used (warranty, you will know where it has been), so therefore I would recommend the 100A. Plus if you get the 100A you get a $500 rebate and free tapes and battery.

Well I actually found a dvx100 with only 14 hrs of usage for about $1200 so I figured that I couldn't beat that and I better jump on that for the price.. But thanks for the response Yankee..

1200 for a camera with only 14 hours of use on a used dvx100 is awesome... you will not be upset, unless it is dead when you get it.

I purchased a 100E for about $3159 (yes, they are a LOT more expensive here in Norway, as a 100AE would cost about $6319). And I am perfectly happy with it, it really does everything I need it to do, the focus ring is great, so you won't really miss the "autofocus". The only thing I miss is the squeeze function and gain adjustments in progressive.

Other than that, they are both great cameras, and as most of us here say: "Want quality? Focus on the content." ... Although I suck at that :(

Have you seen this cam or even used it?

14 hours on a DVX100 (not the "A" version) must of had the heads replaced or been a rebuilt and/or the hour meter was reset. Why would some sell it so cheap with $800.00 16:9 lens and two chargers and two batteries, plus it's the seller first ever item he's selling ebay (no history) with the reserve been met at only $1000.00?

But even if the cam has a problem or is dead, $1200 bucks for the accessories isn't bad but at that price you can get the accessories new. I think it's a gamble even if it's only $1200 bucks plus the auction isn't over yet.

Buyer beware! Search on ebay for "16:9 lens". I don't have that kind of money to burn if it ends up being a dud. But if plan to get it I wish you the best of luck!

Man don't scare me like that angelo, I understand the concern though....lol I'm protected up to $1000 ....

You can't reset the hours on the DVX, other than replacing the VTR board alltogether (which is quite easy, having said that...)

Thanks for the comment Panasonic.. I needed that info... because now I'm pretty skeptical about this ebay buy.... it says only 14 hrs of usage...

Sorry, but I'm just stating some facts.

This is just one DVX100 and I predict many "pro" users of the DVX100/100A to be switching the HVX-200 in the next year or so and selling their DVX100/100A plus Panasonic "may" just drop the price on the DVC100A even further after sale drop off, but right now it's a great price too.

Since I'm more of a hobbyist I plan to stay with DV for a couple more years and switch to HD/HDV 3 to 5 years as more "improved" and cheaper HD solutions come out. Remember there still isn't a HD DVD standard out yet for customers. Current people who has HDV cams are down converting to SD DVD to customers.
